In this role you may work remotely from a home office or onsite at our Industrial AI Lab in Princeton, NJ
We are an AI research Lab specializing in Physics x AI research. Our mission is to scale the capabilities of AI in the physical domain, encoding diverse scientific and engineering knowledge into neural networks to tackle complex, high-impact industrial and scientific problems. As an integral part of Siemens’ Data Analytics & AI organization, we drive physical AI innovation for an industrial scale.
This intern will:
- Conduct applied research on Industrial Generative AI or Physical AI with a focus on one or more of the following topic areas:
- Time-series foundation models
- Transformer-based models for sequential decision-making optimization
- Agentic AI, with focus on AI memory and learning agents
- Advance physics-informed machine learning by designing transformer-based architectures for encoding complex geometries and topologies
- AI-native chip design
- Design, develop and implement (research) prototypes and demonstrators under the guidance of your supervisor
- Contribute to our team’s R&D projects
- Create technical reports, presentations and ideally publish a scientific paper detailing the outcomes of your research with our team
Basic Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a research-focused MS or a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or other from an accredited university
- Demonstrated Experience publishing and writing scientific papers (e.g. NeurIPS, ICML, IEEE, AAAI, L4DC)
- Demonstrated ability to work with Python and PyTorch.
- Proficient in English both written and verbal
- Excellent communication skills, eager to learn and be part of a diverse team
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in one or more of the following is desirable:
- Design, training and evaluation of foundation models and/or transformer-based ML models
- RL-based post-training of foundation models
- RL-based or metaheuristic-based sequential decision-making optimization
- Data analytics application to power systems use cases
- Physics-informed neural networks, Graph Neural Networks or Geometric Deep Learning
- Designing, implementing and evaluating large-scale Agentic AI systems
- Methods for uncertainty quantification in neural networks
- Preferably graduating within the next 12 months and considering a career in industrial R&D
Successful candidate must be able to work with controlled technology in accordance with US Export Control Law.
