RBVH, Medical Oncology Technician

Ethos Veterinary Health
Red Bank, NJ

Medical Oncology Technician

Red Bank Veterinary Hospital (RBVH) proudly opened its new, state-of-the-art facility in May 2024—an expansive, 100,000+ square foot space nearly twice the size of our original Tinton Falls location. This milestone marks the continuation of over 40 years of dedicated service to our community. Equipped with advanced diagnostics like MRI, CT, fluoroscopy, and a PET scanner, the hospital features 52 exam rooms, 12 surgical suites, a dedicated emergency department, and expanded training spaces. Thoughtful amenities—including feline-only waiting areas, a rehab unit, comfort rooms, and a serene zen garden—reflect our commitment to exceptional care for pets and their families.

We are seeking a compassionate and organized Medical Oncology Technician to join our Oncology service. This unique role combines patient care, scheduling coordination, and clinical support to ensure chemotherapy and oncology appointments run smoothly. Technicians in this position have the opportunity to develop advanced skills in oncology patient management, work closely alongside veterinary oncologists, and contribute to delivering exceptional, empathetic care to patients and their families.

Position Overview:

This position requires a compassionate, detail-oriented technician who is comfortable working with both clients and patients during sensitive and emotional visits.

In addition to hands-on technical skills, the technician will help coordinate and oversee the daily flow of the Oncology department—ensuring that appointments run efficiently, patients receive timely and attentive care, and communication between the medical team and clients remains clear and supportive. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, demonstrates excellent organizational skills, and is committed to delivering exceptional patient care and client service.

Location:

  • Red Bank, NJ
Compensation:
  • Credentialed Technicians: $27- $32/hr. based on experience
  • Non-Credentialed Technicians: $24- $27/hr. based on experience

Anticipated Schedule:
  • Full Time
    • Wednesday - Saturday
      • 7:30am-5:30pm or 8am - 6pm

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for both outpatient and inpatient patients, including monitoring vital signs, blood pressure, IV fluid management, medication administration, in-patient treatments, and responding to emergencies.
  • Assist doctors with procedures such as fine needle aspirates, bone marrow aspirates, and other diagnostic or therapeutic tasks.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of non-chemotherapy medications, sedatives, and anesthetic drugs, including reconstitution, dilution, administration routes, concentrations, dosages, side effects, and proper handling.
  • Manage patient cases from start to finish in collaboration with doctors and other staff members.
  • Understand and update chemotherapy protocols accurately.
  • Perform and interpret laboratory tests, including CBCs and chemistry panels, and communicate results effectively to clients.
  • Submit samples appropriately to both on-site and external laboratories.
  • Demonstrate strong venipuncture skills, including use of IV catheters and winged butterfly sets.
  • Safely restrain patients during exams, chemotherapy administration, and other procedures.

  • Multitask efficiently, work independently, and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Routine and Administrative Tasks

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with doctors, staff, and clients, providing compassionate support and problem-solving as needed.
  • Handle clerical responsibilities such as obtaining referral records, entering charges, creating discharge summaries, documenting medical records, scheduling appointments, checking voicemails and emails, and preparing medical charts.
  • Support training and mentoring of new staff members.
  • Maintain oncology rooms by stocking supplies, cleaning, and ensuring all equipment is functioning properly.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Two years of experience working as a nursing team member in a veterinary hospital is required.

Why Work in Medical Oncology?

  • Medical Oncology is a place where advanced medicine, skill growth, and compassionate care all come together. Every day, you get to use and expand your technical skills — from catheter placements and fluid therapy to medication administration — while handling complex cases that often include multiple health conditions. It’s fast-paced, challenging, and deeply rewarding.
  • One of the best parts of the job is the relationships you build. You get to know patients and families over time, optimizing quality of life and celebrating wins together. Oncology patients often leave the hospital wagging their tails, excited to see us again. Even the most anxious pets learn to trust our team, and clients appreciate the care and attention we give, sometimes driving an hour just for that experience.
  • Teamwork is at the heart of what we do. Our nurses and doctors trust each other, communicate seamlessly, and support one another through emotionally intense moments. We celebrate not just patient milestones, but each other’s growth — whether it’s mastering a new procedure or taking on a challenging case.
  • If you want a role where you can grow your skills, make a real impact on patients’ lives, and be part of a supportive, high-achieving team, Medical Oncology is the place to be.
Why Join RBVH?
  • Work alongside a dedicated team of veterinary professionals committed to delivering exceptional patient care.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where your skills make a direct impact on patients and their families.
  • Be part of meaningful moments in the lives of pets and their owners, providing compassionate support and care.
  • Expand your knowledge through ongoing training, mentorship, and a culture that values continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Receive a competitive compensation and benefits package that recognizes your expertise and commitment.
