Automation & Controls Maintenance Technician
Job Description
Job Description
Shape the heartbeat of our production lines
Picture your day: you arrive on the floor and a high-speed line is down. You trace the fault from a VFD to a PLC routine, patch the logic, and get the line humming. Before lunch you run infrared thermography and vibration routes, flagging a bearing issue before it becomes an outage. In the afternoon, you coach a junior tech through a laser alignment, then close out CMMS work orders and document a reliability improvement that saves real money. That’s a good day here.
What you’ll take on- Own expert-level break-fix and preventive maintenance for mechanical and electrical assets; design and implement improvements to complex systems as your specialty requires.
- Program, troubleshoot, and analyze advanced control systems to resolve deep software, hardware, and configuration issues.
- Apply predictive technologies—infrared thermography, ultrasonic testing, power quality analysis, laser interferometry, ball bar checks, and vibration analysis—to assess condition and drive proactive maintenance.
- Lead and contribute to Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives, delivering process gains and cost savings with proven CI tools and methodology.
- Source parts and supplies, propose engineered alternatives, and implement reliability-driven solutions.
- Independently perform maintenance to industry standards; uphold 5S and rigorous housekeeping.
- Set up and operate machining equipment (lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools) to fabricate/repair parts; perform welding as needed.
- Research emerging methods, tools, and innovations; recommend adoption across ATS sites and update documentation.
- Provide inputs for cost analyses on new equipment, repair/rebuild proposals, savings, and innovations.
- Maintain accurate records, review CMMS history, and analyze maintenance data to inform decisions.
- Support sales efforts with technical content for quotations; perform time-and-materials duties when required.
- Train and mentor less experienced technicians; step into project management responsibilities as assigned.
- Pursue on-the-job training and self-study to advance your craft and career.
- Follow all safety policies, rules, regulations, instructions, and guidelines; practice constant situational awareness to identify unsafe behaviors and conditions.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Associate degree with a technical focus and 7 years of related experience in the specific industry; or 10 years of experience in the specific industry.
- Hands-on proficiency with predictive technologies, including vibration analysis or laser interferometer operation, precision alignments, and maintenance of process equipment.
- Strong grasp of electrical, mechanical, fluid power, and control systems; able to diagnose, develop alternatives, and execute repairs.
