About the Role:
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Ophthalmic Technician to support our physicians in delivering professional and exceptional eye care. This role is ideal for someone detail-oriented, patient-focused, and interested in fast-learning and growth. Experience in clinical ophthalmology or medical settings, scribing and documenting exams for physicians is welcome.
Key Responsibilities:
The following delineation of job responsibilities is intended to reflect the major duties of this job. Other responsibilities may be assigned as deemed necessary and appropriate.
Conduct patient workups (help check patients prior to examination by physician: applying drops, checking eye pressure, visual acuity, pupil testing)
Perform diagnostic testing (OCT, visual fields, fundus photography)
Participate in the improvement of patient care, patient flow and operations
Assist physicians during examinations, injections and minor procedures (help prepare patients)
Document findings accurately in EMR system
Communicate plans and educate patients on treatments, medications, and follow-up care.
Maintain exam rooms and ophthalmic equipment (setting up equipment for the use of patients, getting exam rooms/equipment ready at the beginning and end of the day, cleaning/disinfecting everything at the end of the day)
Ensure the accurate preparation of patient paperwork/procedures
Help in the areas of clerical and administrative functions as needed
Assist with scheduling patient appointments as needed
Help determine which physician a patient should see medically
Help in ordering ophthalmic supplies
Help triaging emergencies patients
Obtain medical history/medications of patients
Obtain authorizations and referrals as needed
Qualifications:
Prior experience as an Ophthalmic Technician / medical office setting strongly preferred (1+ years preferred)
Strong knowledge of Ophthalmic terminology, medical information and insurance guidelines is preferred
Excellent communication, customer service skills, strong phone skills, and personal interaction skills
Strong ability to multitask and manage time efficiently
Successful candidates have a minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.
Ability to type efficiently, use standard office equipment and effectively navigate a computer
