Staff Representative

OPEIU Local 32 is seeking a full-time permanent Staff Representative available to start immediately. This is a hands-on position that will work daily with internal organizing, shop stewards, and the membership.

Extensive experience in contract negotiations, grievance handling, and arbitration is strongly preferred. Knowledge of NLRB and PERC procedures a plus.

Job duties include:

• Negotiating collective bargaining agreements (including first contracts), including developing proposals and working with rank and file bargaining committees
• Contract enforcement, including grievance handling, disciplinary appeals, and arbitrations
• Internal organizing and membership development
• Establishing/maintaining a local steward structure at worksites by identifying, training, and developing worksite leaders
• Conducting worksite meetings and maintaining regular communication with stewards and membership
• All aspects of member mobilization, including for contract campaigns and the Local’s broader political program
• Participation in political, community, and other union events/programs

Starting salary ($75,000 – $90,000) is commensurate with experience. Comprehensive benefits package includes medical plan, pension plan with employer contribution, and up to 5 weeks of benefit leave time.

Our office is in Wall, NJ, but position would be partially remote with driving required. Valid driver’s license and car with insurance required.
