Job Summary:
The service technician is responsible for all aspects of service, repair, installation and maintenance of production and laboratory furnaces. This role requires delivering exceptional technical support, maintaining equipment reliability, and providing outstanding customer service to end users in manufacturing, research, and laboratory environments.
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Supervise and coordinate activities of service technicians performing installation, calibration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of high-temperature industrial and laboratory furnaces, including going on service calls themselves.
· Manage service schedules, field assignments, and customer site visits to ensure timely response and completion of work orders.
· Provide advanced technical support to resolve complex electrical and mechanical issues, both on the phone and in person.
· Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs and standard service procedures.
· Train and mentor service staff on equipment operation, diagnostics, safety, and customer interaction.
· Coordinate with engineering, production, and quality teams to communicate field issues and recommend product or design improvements.
· Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and company policies.
· Support customer relationships by providing professional communication, technical guidance, and post-service follow-up.
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
· 5+ years of hands-on experience servicing machinery; 2+ years in a supervisory or managerial capacity preferred.
· Strong understanding of furnace controls, thermocouples, PID controllers, PLCs, and gas/electrical heating systems.
· Proficient in reading electrical and mechanical schematics.
· Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
· Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
· Willingness to travel to customer sites (domestic and international) as required.
· Experience with Netsuite or similar ERP system.
· Ability to function well in a fast paced and sometimes stressful environment.
· Proficient with Microsoft Office software.
Education and Experience:
· Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
· 5+ years of hands-on experience servicing machinery; 2+ years in a supervisory or managerial capacity preferred.
Physical Requirements:
· Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
· Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times.
