POSITION SUMMARY:

This role supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Pathways Mentor is responsible for guiding and supporting individuals through the Pathways Program, ensuring their successful navigation and progress toward personal and professional development goals. The incumbent will provide one-on-one mentorship, offer guidance and advice, and help participants identify and overcome barriers to success.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Mentorship: Provide personalized guidance and support to participants in the Pathways Program, assisting them in setting and achieving academic and career goals.
  • Goal Setting: Collaborate with mentees to establish clear and achievable short-term and long-term objectives, and regularly monitor their progress.
  • Resource Assistant: Connect participants with relevant resources, workshops, and training programs to enhance their skill sets and promote their professional growth.
  • Personal Development: Foster a positive and supportive relationship with mentees, promoting self-confidence, resilience, and effective decision-making.
  • Networking: Facilitate networking opportunities for participants, helping them build professional connections and access resources within their fields of interest.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of mentoring sessions, progress reports, and any other relevant documentation as required by the program.
  • Feedback & Evaluation: Provide constructive feedback and conduct periodic evaluations to assess the effectiveness of the mentorship program and identify areas for improvement.
  • Champion gender and cultural diversity while successfully implementing and monitoring programs.
  • Help with homework in all subjects, ensuring academic support is provided in alignment with educational goals.
  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with members, volunteers, staff, and participants.
  • Attend required Abuse Risk Management training and adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising members and participants.
  • Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations and follow mandated abuse reporting procedures.
  • Ensure unused rooms and closets remain locked, will routinely monitor high-risk locations (locker rooms and restrooms) etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates and/or bachelor’s degree in relevant field such as Business, Psychology, Education, or Human Resources.
  • Must be at least 23 years old.
  • Must have a CPR/AED and First Aid Certification OR get certified within 90 days of employment.
  • Proven experience in mentoring, coaching, or counseling or 2-3 years of experience in a mentoring role.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Empathetic and patient with the ability to motivate and inspire others.
  • Familiarity with educational and career development resources and strategies
  • Ability to create and maintain a positive and supportive learning environment.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
  • Able to motivate and inspire others.
  • Able to build trust and establish meaningful relationships.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Lifting program equipment up to 50lbs.

HOURLY PAY RATE: $18.00-$20.00

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday

  • Occasional Saturday field trips (as needed)
