This position offers the opportunity to build ongoing relationships with patients you see regularly over time.

Responsibilities

  • Manage patient flow in a high-volume podiatry office, coordinating closely with the office supervisor and other medical assistants to keep the schedule running smoothly.
  • Greet and room patients promptly, ensuring they are prepared for their visit and comfortable during their time in the office.
  • Perform vital sign checks, including manual blood pressure, and document results accurately in the electronic medical record.
  • Assist providers directly with patient care during examinations and office procedures.
  • Set up examination and procedure rooms before visits, ensuring all necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment are ready for use.
  • Break down and clean rooms after visits and procedures, maintaining a safe, organized, and sanitary clinical environment.
  • Sterilize instruments according to established protocols and maintain proper documentation of sterilization processes.
  • Update patient charts with current medications and other relevant clinical information.
  • Restock exam rooms and supply closets regularly, complete inventory tasks, and notify appropriate staff when supplies need to be ordered.
  • Triage incoming phone calls and messages, addressing basic questions and routing physician and patient inquiries appropriately.
  • Update patient records and input orders accurately in the electronic medical record system.
  • Work within the EMR to update inboxes, scan and upload documents, and maintain thorough and accurate electronic medical records, including use of Athena.
  • Support two providers running simultaneously in a practice that sees approximately 80–100 patients per day.
  • Provide excellent customer service and maintain strong bedside manner to ensure a positive patient experience.
  • Collaborate with team members across locations when needed, including occasionally covering at nearby offices.
Essential Skills
  • At least 6 months of experience as a Medical Assistant or in a similar clinical support role.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a high-volume outpatient setting, supporting approximately 80–100 patients per day.
  • Hands-on experience with electronic medical record (EMR) systems; experience with Athena or Epic is strongly preferred but other EMR experience is acceptable.
  • Proficiency in back-office medical assisting tasks, including rooming patients, taking vital signs, and assisting with office procedures.
  • Ability to perform manual blood pressure measurements accurately.
  • Experience updating patient records, entering orders, and scanning documents into EMR systems.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage patient flow efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication skills for triaging phone calls and interacting with patients and clinical staff.
  • Customer service orientation and strong bedside manner to support a positive patient experience.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and remain detail-oriented in a busy clinical setting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Certified Medical Assistant credential preferred but not required; if certified, the certification must be from an accredited program.
  • If not certified, completion of relevant medical assisting courses from an accredited school is required.
  • Previous experience in orthopedics or podiatry is a strong plus.
  • Proactive and outgoing approach to patient care and teamwork.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems independently and support the team in a dynamic environment.
  • Hardworking, reliable, and comfortable taking initiative to keep the office running smoothly.
  • Ability to build rapport with patients seen on a recurring basis, supporting long-term outpatient care relationships.
Work Environment

This role is based in an outpatient podiatry practice in New Providence, supporting two providers in a high-volume office that sees approximately 80–100 patients per day. The standard schedule is a 40-hour workweek, Monday through Friday, with two Saturdays per month. The weekday schedule typically starts at 7:45 a.m., with end times around 5:15 p.m. or 6:15 p.m.; Mondays and Wednesdays are later evenings, with the last patient scheduled at 5:50 p.m. Saturday hours are generally 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Staff may occasionally be assigned to cover another nearby location, with consideration given to keep travel within about 30 minutes from New Providence or from home. The environment is fast-paced, team-oriented, and focused on outpatient care, allowing you to see many of the same patients quarterly or biannually and build lasting relationships. You will work primarily in clinical exam rooms and back-office areas, using electronic medical records (including Athena and potentially other EMR systems), standard medical office equipment, and sterilization tools for instruments. Professional clinical attire is expected to support a safe, hygienic, and patient-focused setting.
