Job Overview:

Under general supervision, the Histology Technician performs all laboratory procedures as required according to established hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Associate's degree and
• HT ASCP or HLT ASCP Certification, or eligible
• 2 to 4 years of experience as a Histology technician/Histology Technologist

Essential Functions

• The Per-Diem Histotechnologist is responsible for preparing tissue specimens for microscopic examination by performing routine histology techniques.
• Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in the orientation and sectioning of the different fresh tissue specimens submitted for frozen section examination. Is able to perform basic troubleshooting in a case by case basis.
• Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in evaluating old and new antibodies for immunohistochemistry staining. Adheres to policies and procedures recommended by the Chairman of the Department of Pathology.
• Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in tissue fixation and processing utilizing the policies and procedures recommended by the Chairman of the Department of Pathology.
• This position requires adherence to quality control protocols, regulatory standards CAP, CLIA, OSHA, and proper specimen identification procedures,
• The histotechnologist must be able to work independently, adapt to varying schedules, and support the lab during high-volume periods, staff absences, or special procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the department
