We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Restaurant Manager to lead and manage daily operations at a contemporary, fast-paced Japanese restaurant in Hackensack, NJ. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in restaurant management, a passion for exceptional food and service, and a deep understanding of Japanese cuisine and culture. This position requires a hands-on leader who thrives in a high-energy environment and is focused on driving operational excellence, guest satisfaction, and team development.
Key Responsibilities:
Overall Restaurant Operations: Oversee day-to-day operations to ensure smooth and efficient service, from both the front and back-of-house, maintaining high standards of food quality and service
Team Leadership & Development: Lead, train, and mentor a team of managers and staff, ensuring exceptional customer service, operational efficiency, and adherence to brand standards. Foster a positive, collaborative environment focused on growth and teamwork
Guest Satisfaction: Ensure every guest has an exceptional dining experience by overseeing the quality of food, service, and atmosphere. Handle guest concerns or complaints promptly and professionally
Staffing & Scheduling: Develop effective staffing schedules to meet the needs of the restaurant while managing labor costs. Ensure that all shifts are appropriately staffed, especially during peak times and special events
Inventory & Cost Control: Manage inventory levels, order supplies, and control food and beverage costs. Regularly review inventory and waste reports to ensure effective stock management
Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure the restaurant adheres to all local, state, and federal health regulations, including food safety, cleanliness, and sanitation standards
Financial Oversight: Track and analyze restaurant performance metrics, including sales, labor costs, and guest satisfaction scores, to ensure financial goals and operational targets are met
Training & Performance Reviews: Develop and execute training programs for new hires and ongoing development for current staff. Conduct performance reviews and provide feedback to help team members grow in their roles
Marketing & Promotion: Work with the marketing team to implement promotions, loyalty programs, and community events that drive traffic and elevate the restaurant's profile in the local area
Collaboration with Ownership & Senior Leadership: Regularly communicate restaurant performance, challenges, and opportunities to ownership and senior leadership. Implement strategies to improve operations and increase profitability
Qualifications:
3+ years of experience as a restaurant manager in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, preferably in a Japanese or Asian-inspired restaurant
Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on exceptional customer service
Knowledge of Japanese cuisine, culture, and dining traditions preferred
Strong understanding of financial management, including P&L, budget oversight, inventory control, and cost management
Experience with restaurant management software, POS systems, and scheduling tools
Ability to analyze performance data and make strategic decisions to drive operational success
Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Ability to work under pressure during peak times and ensure quality service
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
