NEEDED: DIETITIAN (registered)

This position supports the Future Sentinel Preparatory Course (FSPC) at USCG Training Center Cape May, which includes providing structured nutritional guidance to recruits, ensuring safe and effective progression toward meeting Coast Guard physical fitness and body composition standards.

OBJECTIVE: To assist recruits in achieving physical fitness and body composition standards required for Coast Guard service. The Registered Dietician will provide expertise in medical nutrition therapy, performance nutrition, and multidisciplinary collaboration to foster healthy lifestyle changes.

LOCATION: 1 Munro Ave, Cape May, NJ 08204

SCHEDULE: 30-40 hours per week, 8 hours workday, Monday – Saturday, between 5:30 AM and 5:00 PM

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • US Citizen
  • Must have and maintain a current, active, valid, and unrestricted Dietician license to practice in the State of New Jersey.
  • Must maintain Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Must have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Dietetics and Nutrition from an ACEND-accredited program.
  • Background in sports nutrition and/or weight management with minimum of two (2) years is desired.
  • Must comply with the State of New Jersey health and medical screening requirements.
  • Must be able to work independently and design appropriate treatment plans.
  • Must demonstrate ability to create and deliver instructional presentations for both individual and group sessions.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Shall perform Registered Dietitian (RD) service consultations, practitioner, and dietitian program expert within their scope of practice to assist Future Sentinel obtain weight standards.
  • Determine optimal medical nutrition therapy utilizing a four-step nutrition care process: nutrition assessment, nutrition diagnosis, nutrition intervention, and nutrition monitoring and evaluation.
  • Assess Future Sentinel health and nutrition history to include chief complaint, history of present concern, past medical and surgical history, laboratory values, medication and supplement use, activity level, typical eating patterns, cultural background, psychosocial issues that impact on nutritional status, and other conditions.
  • Manage Future Sentinel care through evidence-based treatment plans to include follow-up and routine monitoring of compliance through metric indicators such as abdominal circumference, lipid abnormalities, and iron levels.
  • Develop basic nutrition plans including individualized menu plans for classes of up to 30 students over a 90-day period. Calculate caloric intake and protein/carbohydrate/fat balancing to meet the physical demands of the program while enabling safe weight loss.
  • Provide weight reduction counseling to Future Sentinels. Provide memoranda documenting nutrition counseling when appropriate.
  • Conduct weight reduction counseling based on the Future Sentinels individual nutrition care plan. Weight reduction counseling can be conducted individually, as a group, or a combination of individual and group sessions.
  • Provide nutrition education programs to maximize human performance optimization and eventual combat performance.
  • Conduct spot checks of student plates during mealtimes to provide timely feedback on student feeding decisions. Review food and fitness diaries to monitor trends and compliance with prescribed nutritional plans.
  • Provide support to the CG TRACEN Cape May Food Service Officer in marketing CG nutrition.
  • Develop individualized wellness plans based on comprehensive risk-factors for weight, use, exercise rates, nutritional status, and blood pressure. Conduct counseling or referrals appropriate to the individual’s identified needs.
  • Provide patient-centered nutrition care through collaborating with interdisciplinary team. Promote and participate in team-based group therapy for treatment of conditions such as obesity and eating disorders.
  • Provide input to the performance improvement program. Identify areas for improvement in Future Sentinel care, establish objectives for improvement and report on the progress of attaining objectives.
  • Document patient records, all assessments, nutrition therapy, treatments, and follow-up care rendered through the computerized programs.
  • Nutritional assessment reports detailing individual student progress and areas for improvement.
  • Documentation of student attendance and participation in nutritional counseling sessions.
  • Weekly program evaluation reports summarizing the effectiveness of the nutritional program and recommendations for enhancements.
