Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Technologist Trainee to join our Microbiology department. This role involves managing high-volume testing and ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of laboratory processes. The position is ideal for individuals passionate about laboratory science and eager to grow in the field.

Responsibilities

• Calibrate and clean pipettes and necessary instrumentation, troubleshooting as needed.
• Follow quality control rules and monitor controls for error detection, taking corrective action when necessary.
• Maintain laboratory records, maintenance logs, quality control charts, reagent, and standard logs.
• Handle instrument-heavy tasks, responsible for obtaining samples from the propel instrument and loading them onto the chem line.
• Process samples through the chem line and release results to a system.
• Focus on instrument maintenance and results review as a primary goal.
• Manage high-volume testing, responsible for 6,000 to 8,000 specimens per shift across two instrument lines.
• Ensure sample lines are loaded accurately and results gross over.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor's degree in life science such as chemistry or biology.
• Laboratory experience, preferably in wet chemistry.
• Academic lab experience, including forensic toxicology, chemistry, and biology processing.
• Proven ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently.
• Excellent research and problem resolution skills.
• High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
• Experience in a clinical laboratory setting is preferred.

Work Environment

This role operates in a fast-paced production environment, with shifts from Tuesday to Saturday, 9:00 PM to 5:30 AM. The facility provides a coffee bar accessible for night shift employees and a 24-hour quick check near the lab for breaks. The organization offers excellent training and leadership, providing room for growth into other departments and permanent positions. It's a great entry-level opportunity in a top diagnostic laboratory.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $30.00/hr.
