Job Overview:
The Patient Care Coordinator (PCC) works Under direction, plans, organizes, coordinates and directs day-to-day activities related to the surgical and clinical activities within the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. The secondary purpose of the Patient Care Coordinator position is to provide administrative assistance to providers in accordance with the mission statement of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Coordinates administrative tasks, scheduling, and other patient care issues as directed by the Physicians, Practice Supervisor and Sr. Director of Administration.

Required:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirements.
  • At least one year of experience working in a physician group practice
  • Must have significant knowledge of computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, practice management software, PowerPoint, as well as web-based software
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of the importance of patient satisfaction and safety
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Attention to accuracy and detail
  • Able to multitask and work under pressure
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and electronic medical record (EMR) systems

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Schedule will vary per needs of the sites and availability of employees
  • Day Shift 8am-4pm

Essential Functions:

  • Understands the process for pre-certification/pre-authorization from insurance companies for imaging and procedures, understand basic principles of insurance coverage. Obtain insurance information, demographic information and authorizations as needed
  • Works with providers to schedule testing/blood work, forwards test results/ faxes to appropriate providers in a timely manner
  • Confirms pre-operative instructions with patients as directed by physicians
  • Responds to written and telephone inquiries from patients, physician offices, insurance companies, Informs other staff of pertinent information
  • Maintains patient confidentiality, complies with HIPPA guidelines as established by the practice.
  • Understands and adheres to Rutgers/UPA s compliance standards as they appear in Rutgers/UPA s Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy
  • Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Rutgers/UPA s regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified,
  • Responds professionally and pleasantly to telephone messages. Obtains adequate/accurate information and delegate information appropriately
  • Maintains communication with physicians, mid-level providers, patients, hospitals, insurance companies
