AVP of Payroll Location Toms River, NJ :

The AVP of Payroll is responsible for leading the payroll operations across a large, multi-state Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) organization with nearly 100 facilities nationwide. This role ensures accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing for thousands of employees. The AVP will oversee a payroll team, implement process improvements, maintain compliance with federal and state wage regulations, and partner with HR and Finance to support business and labor strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee end-to-end payroll processing across all facilities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and full regulatory compliance.
  • Lead and manage the national payroll team, including payroll managers, processors, and analysts.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local wage and hour laws, including garnishments, tax filings, and benefits-related deductions.
  • Maintain and enhance payroll systems, identifying opportunities for automation and standardization.
  • Develop and maintain payroll policies and procedures to support consistency across the organization.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for payroll-related audits (internal and external), including tax audits, labor board inquiries, and financial reviews.
  • Partner with HR, Legal, and Finance teams to support reporting, employee inquiries, and ongoing initiatives involving compensation and labor strategy.
  • Oversee the implementation of payroll-related components of mergers, acquisitions, and new facility onboarding.
  • Ensure timely and accurate year-end processing.
  • Monitor and report on payroll KPIs and use insights to drive efficiency and cost control.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or related field; CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience managing multi-state payroll operations, including in a leadership or executive capacity.
  • Proven experience working in a high-volume, multi-entity healthcare or long-term care environment.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state payroll tax laws, wage/hour laws, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency in payroll systems such as ADP, UKG/Kronos, Paycom, or similar.
  • Exceptional analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Experience integrating payroll processes post-acquisition or during rapid organizational growth.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $130,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year
