Plant Maintenance Mechanic — Packaging & Processing

Your Impact

• Perform PMs and corrective repairs on conveyors, motors, pumps, pneumatic components, and production machinery.
• Assist with electrical work: swap out switches and sensors; replace and commission VFDs.
• Troubleshoot by watching, listening, and testing with basic diagnostic tools.
• Dismantle, rebuild, and align equipment using hand/power tools; support changeovers, setups, and small fabrications.
• Provide facilities support: plumbing and carpentry tasks, HVAC filter changes, general building upkeep.
• Help with weather-related duties (snow removal, salting, roof checks) and outdoor grounds work.
• Maintain shop organization and cleanliness; return tools to designated locations.
• Track spare parts and supplies; identify shortages and reorder needs.
• Accurately log work in the CMMS/work order system; communicate equipment condition and improvement ideas.

Safety, Food Safety & Quality

• Adhere to all safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).
• Champion GMPs, SSOPs, HACCP, and CCP monitoring.
• Ensure equipment performance meets food safety and product quality requirements; report and help correct risks.

Must-Haves

• Solid mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting capability.
• Basic electrical knowledge (low voltage, sensors, relays, VFDs).
• Read and interpret manuals, schematics, and basic blueprints.
• Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring devices.
• Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and teamwork/independent work balance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2–4 years of maintenance experience in manufacturing or similar.
• Experience with packaging or food processing equipment preferred.
• CMMS exposure is a plus.
• Role is the intermediate tier between Jr. Mechanic and Electro-Mechanic.

Physical Demands & Environment

• Bending, stretching, kneeling, and squatting as part of daily work.
• Climb ladders and work in elevated areas safely.
• Lift up to 50 lbs.
• Work in noisy, cold, hot, and wet conditions.
