Position Summary

The Senior Accountant will play a key role in managing project billing, supporting financial operations, and ensuring accurate accounting records within a fast-paced construction environment.

This position will be heavily focused on project AIA manual and electronic billing, collections support, and collaboration with operations to ensure timely and accurate billing of work completed. In addition, the role will support general accounting functions including account reconciliations, month-end close activities, job cost reporting, financial analysis and ad-hoc reporting

The ideal candidate will have 3–5 years of accounting experience, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Experience with Sage 300 CRE construction accounting and AIA billing, is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

Project Billing & Accounts Receivable

• Prepare, review, and process project billings, including progress billings, milestone billings, and change orders
• Manage monthly client invoicing and ensure timely submission of billing packages
• Prepare and process AIA billings and related supporting documentation
• Track contract values, approved change orders, retainage, and project billing status
• Coordinate with operations and/or estimators to validate project progress and billing amounts
• Monitor accounts receivable aging and assist with collection efforts to ensure timely payment
• Resolve billing discrepancies and respond to customer inquiries regarding invoices and payment status
• Maintain accurate project billing records and supporting documentation

Project Accounting & Job Costing

• Assist with job cost tracking and project financial reporting
• Monitor project costs and support project managers with budget-to-actual reporting
• Review labor, material, subcontractor, and overhead allocations for accuracy
• Support project profitability analysis and work-in-progress reporting

General Accounting

• Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations
• Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
• Support accounts payable and cash management activities as needed
• Maintain general ledger accuracy and supporting schedules
• Assist with financial reporting and analysis
• Support audits and compliance requirements

Systems & Process Improvement

• Utilize Sage and other accounting systems to manage project and financial data
• Assist in improving billing, collection, and accounting processes
• Support implementation of best practices related to project accounting and financial controls
