Job Overview:
The Patient Access Representative is responsible for greeting and registering patients for outpatient, inpatient, and emergency services while ensuring accuracy of demographic, insurance, and financial information,
Qualifications:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Preferred:
- Associate s degree
- Minimum 1 year of experience in healthcare, registration, or customer services
- Knowledge of insurance verification, billing, and authorization processes
- Proficiency with EMR systems, E pic experience a plus
Scheduling Requirements:
- Full Time day
- Rotating weekends and holidays
Essential Functions:
- Greet patients, families, and visitors in a professional and compassionate manner
- Complete accurate registration for all patients presenting for outpatient, inpatient, and emergency services
- Collect and verify patient demographic, insurance, and guarantor information
- Obtain required signatures on consent, and all other related forms
- Enter information into the Electronic Medical Record EMR system
- Review and update patient charts to ensure accuracy
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits
- Obtain prior authorizations or pre-certifications when required
- Collect copayments, deductibles, and outstanding balances at the time of service
- Explain financial responsibility, payment options, and hospital financial assistance programs
- Follow established cash handling and reconciliation procedures
- Provide excellent customer service to patients, families, visitors, physicians, and staff
- Respond promptly and professionally to questions or concerns
- Direct patients and visitors to appropriate departments or locations
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, payer requirements, and regulatory standards
- Review physician orders for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
- Maintain knowledge of departmental workflows, insurance guidelines, and payer requirements
- Assist with training and mentoring of new staff as directed by leadership
