Application and Process Engineer Wastewater Remediation
Job Description
Job Description
Why Join Us?
Are you an engineer who loves seeing the direct impact of your work from the drawing board to the field? At [Company Name], we don’t just build water treatment systems—we solve critical environmental challenges. As an Application & Process Engineer , you won't be stuck behind a desk or hidden in a lab; you’ll sit right at the center of innovation and execution.
This hybrid, highly visible role bridges the gap between client solution design and real-world system commissioning. If you thrive on technical problem-solving, enjoy client-facing technical leadership, and get excited by hands-on engineering, this is your opportunity to drive end-to-end impact.
The Impact You’ll Make
1. Drive Front-End Innovation & Sales Strategy (Application Engineering)
- Architect Custom Solutions: Turn raw water quality data, client RFPs, and complex technical specifications into robust, scalable process designs and treatment schemes.
- Size & Value Engineer: Select and size core equipment (filtration, media, pumps, instrumentation) to build precise capital and operational cost estimates that win business.
- Be the Technical Authority: Partner with Business Development managers to lead client visits, present tailored engineering solutions, and guide clients through complex technical decisions.
- Mitigate Risk: Evaluate technical, operational, and regulatory risks prior to bid submission to ensure feasibility, profitability, and safety.
2. Deliver Real-World Results in the Field (Process Design & Execution)
- Bring Designs to Life: Create and maintain essential process documentation, including Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), and general layout drawings.
- Lead System Launch: Mobilize, startup, and commission water treatment systems onsite, serving as the go-to expert for field troubleshooting and operational launch.
- Optimize Performance: Leverage operational data from active systems to troubleshoot, boost throughput, lower operating costs, and consistently hit environmental discharge targets.
- Champion Safety & Compliance: Ensure designs strictly align with environmental standards (e.g., NJDEP, NYDEC), company safety codes, and client EHS requirements (including conducting HAZOP reviews).
What You Bring to the Team
Core Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Chemical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering.
- Experience: 4–7 years of combined experience in water/wastewater process engineering, technical sales support, cost estimation, or field commissioning.
- Technical Mastery:
- Deep understanding of physical/chemical water treatment processes, fluid dynamics, and mass balance.
- Hands-on experience drafting and reviewing P&IDs and mechanical layouts (AutoCAD proficiency required).
- Strong proposal writing skills with a knack for translating complex engineering into compelling business value.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with regional environmental standards (e.g., NYDEC, NJDEP) is highly preferred.
- Field Readiness: 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire). Valid driver’s license with a clean record and willingness to travel (~15–30%) for site visits and system startups.
Preferred Credentials
- FE/EIT or Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
Mindset & Soft Skills
- Commercially Minded Engineer: You balance technical precision with business acumen, understanding both how a system works and why it makes financial sense for the client.
- Cross-Functional Communicator: You seamlessly connect the dots between internal engineering teams, shop fabricators, sales leads, and external clients.
- Agile Prioritizer: You thrive in a dynamic environment, effortlessly balancing tight proposal deadlines with active field startup needs.
What We Offer
- Competitive compensation package and performance bonuses
- Comprehensive healthcare, vision, and dental coverage
- 401(k) retirement plan with company match
- Paid time off (PTO) and company holidays
- Clear pathways for technical leadership and professional development
