Their role extends to executing routine inspections, handling hazardous materials responsibly, and ensuring the proper functioning of critical systems. With responsibilities spanning from operational tasks to environmental compliance and safety measures, the Auxiliary Operator plays a key role in the overall efficiency and reliability of the power plant.

This position is represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 94 and is subject to a Collective Bargaining Agreement.

  • Operate isolated control panels for Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs), turbines, and generators, including startup and shutdown procedures. Manage major auxiliary equipment, such as air compressors, boiler feedwater treatment systems, and generator cooling systems.
  • Perform operational tests and inspections, making minor repairs and adjustments to ensure proper equipment functionality.
  • Execute orders from the Control Room Operator at isolated panels for equipment clearance or preparation for service. Follow operating instructions and procedures, ensuring all actions are safely tagged, tested, and documented.
  • Maintain detailed logs and provide on-the-job training to assigned personnel.
  • Assist with control room operations as required.
  • Report abnormal or irregular conditions during work processes and take corrective action within the scope of operational instructions.
  • Support maintenance personnel during unit shutdowns.
  • Contribute to the upkeep of plant operating manuals, technical references, prints, diagrams, and preventive/predictive maintenance records.
  • Perform other reasonable tasks as assigned.

This position offers a base pay rate ranging from $35.48 to $42.13 per hour, depending on experience and NJ Seal requirements.

We are seeking a skilled Operator with a foundation in power generation operations, along with a proven ability to support team success and consistently meet performance standards.

  • Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school.
  • Possession of a New Jersey Black or Blue Seal license is preferred but not required for entry-level level 1 Auxiliary Operators.
  • Prior experience in power plant operations or a similar role at an operating or generating plant, with a preference for direct experience in operating or supporting the operations of combined cycle large-frame gas turbine power plants, including startup, shutdown, and routine system inspections.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of combustion/steam turbine operations, closed system steam generation, industrial safety, hazardous waste management, and inspection/recording of plant parameters.
