Job Title: Machinist
Location: Hillside, New Jersey
Compensation: $26 - $36 hourly
Contractor Work Model: Onsite
Company is currently seeking an experienced manual Machinist to join our Hillside, NJ team, supporting a client. R eporting to the NJ Shop Supervisor, this position plays an integral part on the team by producing new sheaves and worm and gear sets to keep elevators running safely, reliably, and efficiently. This position requires manual lathe experience and Vertical Turret lathe (Bullard) experience preferred to support our shop process flow.
Primary Responsibilities:- Precision machining:
- Demonstrate the ability to read precision measuring instruments such as inside and outside micrometers within 0.0005”.
- Review drawings, instructions, blueprints or samples to ensure accurate production.
- Operate and maintain:
- Horizontal and vertical lathes
- Milling machines and boring mills
- Radial drill presses
- Cylindrical and surface grinding equipment
- Gear hobbing machinery
- Working knowledge and demonstrate the ability to weld structural steel assemblies
- Collaborate with other shop personnel and management to continually improve processes including:
- Developing new fixturing/work holding methods
- Tooling alternatives
- Routing efficiencies
- Maintain an accurate shop routing for shop control and costing at the direction of the shop foreman noting:
- Setup hours
- Task hours
- Material inputs
- Quality Assurance:
- Check output for quality assurance and document defects or workmanship issues.
- Identify the need for and perform machine maintenance and minor repairs.
- Health and Safety Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, including the wearing of appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Communicate with internal team members to ensure procedures and processes are being followed in a safe and effective manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- 5 years experience in a related machine shop environment required
- Manual lathe experience required; Vertical Turret lathe (Bullard) experience preferred
- Certification from vocational and/or trade school or university preferred
- Apprenticeship or vocational training preferred
- Experience working in an industrial machine shop environment with machine tools or mechanical assembly
- Elevator and/or motor shop experience highly preferred
- Gear hobbing and/or worm and gear cutting experience highly preferred
As part of the onboarding and training development process, team members will complete training in some of the following areas associated with there assigned department. Following successful completion and certification in these areas, additional compensation will apply.
