Employment Specialist (Job Coach)
Avidd Community Services of New Jersey, Inc proudly serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Morris, Bergen, and Somerset Counties. Our residential and community-based programs are designed to foster independence, build life skills, and support individuals in leading meaningful, self-directed lives.
As an Employment Specialist, you will play a key role in helping individuals identify career goals, prepare for employment and succeed in meaningful jobs within their communities. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about inclusive employment, relationship-building, and making a tangible impact.
What You’ll Do:
- Support individuals in identifying employment goals based on their strengths, interests, and support needs.
- Prepare individuals for employment through work-readiness skills such as resume development, interviewing and workplace expectations.
- Match individuals with appropriate employment opportunities and provide ongoing job coaching and support.
- Collaborate with employers to promote successful job performance and recommend reasonable accommodations as needed.
- Advocate for individuals related to employment matters, benefits, and workplace supports.
- Complete required documentation (e.g., job analysis, task analysis, progress notes) in accordance with funding and regulatory requirements.
- Represent Avidd’s mission and philosophy when working with employers, families, school districts, and community partners.
- Attend meetings with individuals, case managers, and other stakeholders as needed.
- Work collaboratively withing the agency’s structure and follow established supervision and chain of command.
What to Expect:
- Community-based, daytime work supporting individuals at job sites.
- Collaboration with a supportive team and program leadership.
- Travel within Bergen, Somerset, and Morris Counties.
- Paid training and ongoing professional development.
Qualifications:
- Associates degree preferred; relevant experience may substitute.
- Experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred.
- Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Ability to build positive relationships with individuals and employers.
- Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to complete all required state and agency training.
Pay Rate: $22.23/hr with mileage reimbursement, paid training, full benefits, generous PTO and 403b.
