Propulsion Test Technician II – Commercial Spaceflight Hardware

Join a Top Workplace (New Jersey and USA) where flight‑critical hardware is assembled and proven every night. Picture your shift: you arrive as the shop comes alive, review test procedures and schematics, set up high‑pressure nitrogen and helium rigs, and validate aerospace valves that will fly. If you love building, measuring, troubleshooting, and closing the loop on performance, this role puts you on the front line of launch‑ready reliability.

What you’ll take on

  • Prove that every unit works as designed by performing functional tests on valve components and documenting results with precision.
  • Interpret procedures, schematics, and technical drawings; verify tooling and fixture geometry with microscopes, calipers, micrometers, depth mics, and other metrology tools.
  • Execute builds and test setups using standard hand tools, arbor presses/fixtures, lock wire, and torque seal.
  • Configure and operate electronic instruments: multimeters, ohmmeters, voltmeters, pressure gauges and transducers, load cells, data recorders, and flow meters.
  • Install, operate, and maintain high‑pressure test systems (nitrogen, helium, Skydrol/red‑oil) safely and effectively.
  • Conduct end‑of‑line testing to aerospace and military standards; comply with approved technical data, customer specifications, and regulatory/mil‑spec requirements.
  • Diagnose test failures, perform rework, and recommend corrective actions; assist with maintaining and repairing test equipment.
  • Track parts and counts per job, keep tooling in top condition, and flag routing discrepancies for update.
  • Continuously improve: capture and support Lean ideas that remove waste, strengthen ESD/FOD control, and enhance safety and PPE practices.

Beyond the bench

  • Champion safety, quality, housekeeping, and company policies across the floor.
  • Communicate clearly with peers, engineers, and leaders; participate in team meetings and improvement initiatives.
  • Help train teammates on technical tasks when asked; live our values and keep leadership informed.
  • Build strong cross‑functional relationships and complete special projects as assigned.
  • Keep your area organized, secure, and audit‑ready.

What you’ll bring

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3–5 years in a manufacturing and/or test environment.
  • Hands‑on experience measuring and testing mechanical or electro‑mechanical products.
  • Demonstrated mechanical/technical aptitude and ability to function‑test products to spec.
  • Comfort with electronic test equipment and data capture.
  • Background working with high‑pressure fluids and gases (e.g., Skydrol/red‑oil, nitrogen, helium) and the ability to work around abrasive chemicals and hydraulic fluids.
  • Familiarity with Lean concepts, ESD and FOD control, and appropriate PPE.
  • Clear written and verbal communication across all levels.
  • PC skills with Microsoft Office.
  • Must be a US citizen.

Work environment and schedule

  • Hybrid of office and manufacturing/machine‑shop settings with exposure to fluids, fumes/airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise, and vibration; temperature may vary with outside conditions and machining processes.
  • Use of standard office tools (computers, phones, copiers, filing, fax) and appropriate eye, hearing, and foot protection in production areas.
  • Full‑time role; overtime and weekends as needed. Some travel: approximately 5–10%.
  • Compressed schedule: 4‑day week (Mon–Thu), 10‑hour shifts, 4:30 PM–3:00 AM.

Physical requirements

  • Speak and hear regularly; frequent repetitive hand/arm use and fine motor work.
  • Vision: close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Stand for extended periods, sit, walk, stoop, bend, turn, balance, and crouch while moving about the facility.
  • Lift, stack, push, pull, and move items up to 45 lbs.
