Chief Maintenance Supervisor Electrical

**Description** Under the supervision of the Superintendent PS&C Division and Assistant Superintendent PS&C, the incumbent will be responsible for leading and managing the maintenance and operations of the electrical systems that power the PATH system. This position plays a critical leadership role in overseeing PATH's traction power, lighting, life safety, auxiliary power systems, and supports capital construction efforts across all PATH infrastructure. The infrastructure includes tunnels, stations, bridges, and PATH buildings. This position may qualify as a Maintenance-of-Way employee as defined in Part 219 of Title 49 of the CFR and will be subject to prohibition of use and testing for Alcohol and Drugs as described in that part. An evaluation will be held to identify candidates for Maintenance Supervisor - Chief (Exempt FM-6) in the Power, Signals & Communications (PS&C) Division. This position is subject to participation in the Railroad Retirement System. Responsibilities + Supervise FM-5 exempt supervisors, Electrical Foreman under IBEW Supervisors Collective Bargaining Agreement, Electricians and Cable Splicers under IBEW Crafts Collective Bargaining Agreement. + Supervise and coordinate all electrical maintenance and repair operations for: + Traction power breakers and DC switchgear (650V DC) + Tunnel and station lighting systems + Station and building auxiliary power (AC systems) + 27kV, 15kV and 4160V medium-voltage cable systems and splices + Life safety systems (emergency lighting, alarms, transfer switches, UPS's) + PATH Hackensack River Bridge electrical infrastructure. + Assist in medium voltage switching operations and coordinate planned outages for both maintenance and capital project needs. + Ensure you and subordinates meet 49 CFR Part 217 efficiency testing requirements. + Position is required within one year to successfully obtain and maintain a PATH Employee In-Charge (EIC) Roadway Worker card without restrictions if not already held. + Develop and enforce preventive maintenance schedules and inspections protocols in compliance with NEC, NFPA, FRA, and OSHA standards. + Respond to and lead troubleshooting of critical electrical faults and service disruptions by providing operating and trouble-shooting guidance based on expert knowledge of the PATH electrical system. + Be available for emergency response and rotating shifts, including nights and weekends and be capable of safely accessing confined spaces, elevated structures, and high-voltage areas. + Be an agent for cultural change at PATH while you train, mentor, and supervise electrical Foreman, Electricians and Cable Splicers. Developing and advancing the department through new methods, tools, technologies and embracing management direction in trying different paths to accomplish the goals in safer and more productive ways. + Utilize PATH's Asset Management System and other approved software to manage all aspects of the Electrical Section's inventory and work performance status. + Investigate employee injuries and develop initiatives, programs, and reports to support and promote the Division's Safety and Attendance Management policies. Oversee and manage the Electrical Department's role in Capital Program coordination, including: + Acting as the primary liaison between Electrical Maintenance and Capital Construction teams. + Providing technical oversight during design reviews, system cutovers, and commissioning of new electrical infrastructure. + Ensuring field-level coordination and system integration of new capital assets with existing power infrastructure. + Supporting contractor oversight and field inspections to ensure alignment with PATH standards and long-term maintainability. Minimum Qualifications + Minimum ten (10) years of continuous full-time paid work experience in the electrical field specializing in electrical distribution and transmission, commercial/industrial electrical construction, and/or major electrical systems/plant operation and preventative maintenance. + At least five (5) years of experience in a supervisory role and ability to manage and supervise union staff. + Maintenance, operation, and supervisory experience in DC traction power systems. + Deep understanding of traction power distribution, electrical splicing, cable testing, and system commissioning. + Strong command of NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA, and other relevant electrical codes and standards. Desired Qualifications + Associate or bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related field (preferred but not required). + Program-level and/or advanced technical/vocational education, training, apprenticeship, or other certification in the electrical trade. + Master or Journeyman Electrician license (strongly preferred). + Port Authority High Tension Safety Board certification (strongly preferred). + Experience coordinating with Capital Program or construction teams.
