We are seeking an experienced Shipyard Estimator with 4–5 years of shipyard estimating experience . The ideal candidate will prepare accurate cost estimates for ship repair, maintenance, and conversion projects while working closely with operations, engineering, and project management teams to support competitive and profitable bids.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for ship repair, maintenance, and dry dock projects.
- Review customer specifications, drawings, and technical documents to develop accurate labor, material, subcontractor, and equipment estimates.
- Conduct vessel inspections and participate in pre-bid site visits as needed.
- Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations.
- Coordinate with engineering, production, purchasing, and project management teams during the estimating process.
- Identify project risks, assumptions, and cost-saving opportunities.
- Prepare bid proposals and ensure estimates are completed accurately and submitted on schedule.
- Maintain estimating records, historical cost data, and pricing databases.
- Support project handoff after contract award and provide clarification on estimate details.
Qualifications
- 4–5 years of experience as a Shipyard Estimator is required.
- Experience estimating commercial, government, or naval vessel repair and maintenance projects.
- Strong understanding of ship repair processes, dry docking, marine systems, and shipyard operations.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with estimating software is a plus.
- Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Marine Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred but not required).
- Knowledge of ABS, USCG, Navy, or other maritime regulations is a plus.
- Experience working in a ship repair or marine construction environment.
