Princeton Day School is seeking a Lead Building Mechanic with expertise in HVAC and electrical who will work on multiple sites (within the PDS Campus or housing within close proximity) under the supervision of the Buildings Manager. This role is responsible for operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing building systems, equipment, structures, furniture, hardware, etc., associated with buildings and housing contents and infrastructures. The Lead Building Mechanic will work with the Buildings Manager and oversee the buildings team of maintenance staff, ensuring high standards of work and safety. The Lead Building Mechanic will assume the responsibilities of the Buildings Manager in their absence.This is a full-time 12-month non-exempt (hourly) position working Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm with some evenings and weekends. During emergencies, schedule flexibility will be required. For this position, the ideal candidate is expected to:Take full ownership of all MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) work, including preventative, predictive and corrective work for all PDS facilities and housing.Establish, maintain and document a thorough preventative maintenance program for all MEP and FF&E (furniture, fixtures and equipment) in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and industry standards for all PDS facilities and housing.Perform hands on preventative, predictive and corrective work on all MEP and FF&E for all PDS facilities and housing in accordance with the highest quality standards and established industry standards. Partner with the Buildings Manager to supervise and coordinate the activities of buildings maintenance staff, including reviewing, assigning, monitoring and inspecting the products of work orders submitted to the facilities department through our computerized maintenance management system. Partner with the Buildings Manager to provide guidance and training to PDS buildings employees as needed.Close assigned Work Orders in a timely manner.Schedule all work with minimum disruption of building services and minimum disruption to facility and housing occupants.Patrol, inspect, log, and maintain all MEP, facility structures and FF&E as required for all facilities and housing, ensuring the most economical and efficient operation results are obtained.Assist with fire/life/safety and security programs.Perform special projects as assigned.Handle confidential information in a professional manner.Support snow removal including shoveling, plowing, and operating other snow removal equipment. During snow emergencies, facilities team members may be required to stay overnight.Order materials following department guidelines and follow purchase order procedures.Perform grounds or landscaping functions if required.Perform custodial functions when requested or required.Perform Crossing Guard duties as assigned.Support special events at the school as required.Ability to work overtime when required.Ability to respond to emergencies timely including responding to the campus or housing if necessary in the evenings or weekends. Attend weekly progress meetings with the Buildings Manager.Perform Mail rotation, as required/scheduled.Perform other duties as assigned or required.Qualifications and Personal Attributes: Demonstrate attention to detail and organizational skills.Master skill level in MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing).Professional licenses, Electrical and/or HVACR preferred.Ability to read and interpret blueprints and manufacturer maintenance manuals.Competent in OSHA job site safety requirements.Ability to respond and follow through on assignments/responsibilities in a timely manner.Ability to work on multiple assignments with varying deadlines.Ability to prioritize work based on needs of the facility or community.Ability to communicate effectively.Demonstrate professionalism in all aspects of the job.Ability to work with others and create a positive work environment.Excellent customer service skills.Maintain confidentiality.Ability to work outside in all seasons and weather conditions. Demonstrate computer competency.Contribute to building a positive team spirit.Demonstrate dependability by consistent attendance and punctuality.Ability to take ownership of all responsibilities.Required / Preferred Education, Licenses and/or Experience:High School Diploma or equivalent required.Extensive knowledge of refrigeration, mechanical, electrical, and building automated control systems. Trade School, mechanical engineering or industrial technology training highly desirable.Valid driver's license required.Black Seal Boiler license preferred, or must be able to obtain within 6 months of hire date.Electrical and/or HVACR License preferred.Required Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents in English such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.Ability to write or read routine reports and correspondence in English.Ability to speak effectively with employees, faculty, and parents in English.Physical Demands:The physical demands are those needed to successfully fulfill the job duties and responsibilities stated above. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 80 pounds on occasion. The individual must be able to walk, stoop, climb, and crawl as well as stand for periods of 4 hours or more.Computer Skills:To perform this job successfully, an individual should have moderate computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft and Google products. Ability to learn computer-based equipment log inspection forms and maintenance management software.
