Summary of Job Description
Is an expert member of the System-wide Float Pool possessing exemplary care skills and knowledge with professionalism, cooperation and accountability,
Organizes and administers individualized age specific professional care to patients within an assigned unit of the hospital in support of medical care,
Supports philosophy, objectives and the mission and vision of RWJBarnabas Health and the Department of Patient Care Services Practices in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, American Nurses Association Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics for Nurses, Department of Health Regulations, JCAHO requirements and other regulatory agencies,
Participates in patient teaching and discharge planning,
Participates in unit Performance Improvement evaluation activities,
Qualifications Education
Minimal of three 3 years of medical surgical telemetry experience in a hospital setting,
Demonstrated expertise in medical surgical telemetry field,
Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing,
Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing strongly preferred,
Current New Jersey RN licensure required,
BLS and ACLS certifications required, NIH preferred,
Excellent communication, leadership and collaboration skills,
Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and demonstrated ability to be an effective role model to others,
Flexibility and adaptability are essential in meeting System staffing needs as required,
Travel required to various hospital-based facilities within RWJBarnabas Health,
Average site assignment is three 3 month -less or more,
Assignment length will be based upon facility need,
Successful completion of all Orientation Programs,

Acts as a safety and clinical expert,
Assists patients in the use of ambulation techniques and assistive devices,
Assists patients in the use of ambulation techniques and assistive devices such as: commode chair and proper positioning,

Complies with unit scheduling guidelines,
Complies with system-wide scheduling guidelines according to facility and unit needs,
Delegates and prioritizes work assignments,
Delegates and prioritizes work assignments according to nurse competency and patient care needs,
Demonstrates understanding of blood administrative hospital policy ,
Demonstrates understanding of blood administrative hospital policy and procedure; including but not limited to assuring the presence of consent,
Two-RN patient identification at the bedside and the completion of the transfusion record,
Demonstrates understanding of hospital policy and procedure regarding
Demonstrates understanding of hospital policy and procedure regarding restraints, completes documentation and always uses alternative measures
before initiation or continuation of restraints,
Conducts bedside shift report
Hand-off communication if completed through a combination of the bedside report; addressing the patients physical and emotional status and environment
and the Nurse to-Nurse communication to assure complete documentation of care and assessment using holistic and High Reliability principles,
Conducts hourly rounding on a regular basis when possible,
Performs safety checks and rounding on patients according to the unit requirements in relation to: bathroom, call bell, environment, comfort and
medication review,
Uses Teachback principles when patient teaching,
Implements and is adherent to the policies and procedures of the hospital,
Implements and is adherent to the policies and procedures of the hospital and Nursing Department,
Reviews all newly developed, or revised policy and
procedures,
Maintains infection control standards,
Maintains infection control standards at all times, demonstrates consis hand washing, practices according to current policy and procedure,
safety guidelines and infection control principles,
Performs and documents accurate/appropriate physical assessments,
Performs and documents accurate/appropriate physical assessments as indicated by patient condition
Transmits all pertinent patient information to appropriate individuals

Utilizes and completes the patient white boards to communicate relevant and appropriate patient information,
Uses an understanding of the principles of acute and chronic pain,
Uses an understanding of the principles of acute and chronic pain management to assess each patient s individual needs and provide appropriate and

Utilizes the nursing process with a multidisciplinary approach,
Utilizes the nursing process with a multidisciplinary approach in the delivery of patient care,
