Field Transportation Manager

- Miller Brokerage Services - Provides on-demand capacity solutions through our network of reliable carriers.
Join our team at Miller Transportation Group as the Field Transportation Manager for our Miller Dedicated Services division. The Field Transportation Manager is responsible for overall management, training, support, and successful operation for all MDS locations. The Field Transportation Manager will work closely with Account Managers, Drivers, Dispatchers, and will have a focus on building strong customer relationships through successful operation of the business.

You Will:
- Provide the best possible service to our customers. Address their problems in a prompt and courteous manner. Make every customer feel important.
- Plan ahead to meet service deadlines. Ability to adjust to meet the customers’ needs in case of an emergency.
- Responsible for daily transportation operations of field office personnel.
- Communicate with the customer regularly to ensure advanced knowledge of customer needs and goals, or when problems arise and deadlines will not be met.
- Provide as needed updates to customer and exceed customer requirements and expectations.
- Be MDS eyes and ears on-site at customer locations and or driver domicile locations.
- Will make regular visits to all sites to ensure operational success and to address any outstanding issues.
- Ensure regular customer meetings with follow up on those items needed to be addressed from customers view point.
- Establish Key Factor management and scorecard strategy with dispatch and within operations to be shared with respective operations personnel.
- Ensure customer schedule of work is continually staffed to accommodate all customer needs.
- Backfill for on-site managers as needed to support operations.
- Provide for continuing on-site training and development of MDS on-site employees to include managers, admin and drivers.
- Promote safe work environment by conducting safety audits, creating driver safety meetings and meeting with individuals to reinforce safety expectations.
- Conduct impromptu vehicle inspections to ensure drivers are following DVIR procedures as well as to ensure cleanliness of vehicles and to check for unreported damage.
- Ensure proper staffing of all offsite locations and backfill for time-off as needed.
- FTM to schedule, at minimum, quarterly on-site visits for training, feedback, relationship building, etc. ensuring that all MDS personnel feel a part of a broader team through your connection with on-site personnel.
You Have:
- College Degree required.
- 7 - 10 years supervisory experience in a transportation or a distribution facility. Direct driver supervisory experience required.
- Excellent communication, supervisory and managerial skills.
- Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
- Ability to operate the Department profitably and in accordance to company guidelines.
- Ability and desire to travel to all MDS locations as needed to fulfill expectations of the position and ensure success.
- FTM will expect to travel 50% or more of the work week. 3 - 5 overnights possible monthly.
Working Conditions:
The Field transportation manager will work primarily at varied customer and MDS locations. This will encompass a myriad of potentially different and adverse conditions. S/he may be exposed to noise, vibration, dust, exhaust fumes, and other hazardous and non-hazardous materials. S/he may need to crawl under vehicles and get in and out of vehicles, to ride with drivers and train on equipment usage.
