About the Role:
The Medical Laboratory Technician plays a critical role in the healthcare system by performing complex laboratory tests that aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. This position involves the accurate processing and analysis of biological specimens using a variety of laboratory techniques and equipment. The technician ensures the reliability and precision of test results by adhering to strict quality control and safety protocols. Collaboration with healthcare professionals is essential to provide timely and accurate laboratory data that supports patient care decisions. Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by a recognized certifying body such as ASCP or AMT.
- Experience with specimen processing and laboratory testing in clinical settings.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and quality control standards.
- Ability to operate and maintain standard laboratory equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related discipline.
- Experience in specialized laboratory areas such as microbiology or histology.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic health records (EHR).
- Advanced certifications or training in specific laboratory techniques or instrumentation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Responsibilities:
- Collect, prepare, and process biological specimens such as blood, urine, and tissue samples for laboratory analysis.
- Perform routine and specialized tests in areas including chemistry, hematology, coagulation, microbiology, and histology using automated and manual laboratory equipment.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory instruments to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results.
- Document and report test findings accurately and promptly to healthcare providers while maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Adhere to laboratory safety standards, quality control procedures, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Assist in troubleshooting technical issues and participate in continuous improvement initiatives within the laboratory.
- Collaborate with medical staff to interpret test results and provide technical support as needed.
Skills:
The required skills such as specimen processing, clinical laboratory techniques, and proficiency with laboratory equipment are essential for performing accurate and timely diagnostic tests. Knowledge in chemistry, hematology, coagulation, microbiology, and histology enables the technician to handle a wide range of laboratory analyses critical for patient diagnosis.
