Director of Operations - Elevator
Director of Operations
CAP Elevator is an independent, family-owned elevator and escalator company serving New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania. We specialize in modernization, service, repair, and new construction. Our team combines deep technical expertise, responsiveness, and small-business flexibility to deliver high-quality results on every project.
CAP Elevator is seeking a hands-on Director of Operations to serve as a strategic partner to the owner. This role provides senior leadership across both field and office operations, with direct oversight of project managers and close collaboration on bidding, execution, and profitability. The position blends strategic planning, technical understanding, and execution-focused leadership in a growing, operationally complex environment.
Who We Want
- An experienced operations leader who thrives in a technical, field-based business
- Someone motivated to help a founder step out of day-to-day execution and scale the company
- A leader who can balance decisiveness with adaptability—comfortable both leading from the front and planning ahead
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations across modernization, construction, service, and repair projects
- Lead, mentor, and hold accountable project managers and administrative staff, ensuring quality, safety, and consistency
- Partner with the owner on bid strategy, pricing, and proposal development, including large-scale modernization and GC-led projects
- Serve as the escalation point for operational challenges, addressing technical, logistical, and personnel issues
- Represent CAP Elevator in client, subcontractor, and project meetings with professionalism and authority
- Ensure compliance with AIA, HUD, and public contracting requirements, including permitting and technical documentation
- Develop and implement systems and standard operating procedures to support growth (scheduling, materials, quality control, closeouts)
- Monitor job performance and profitability in collaboration with the owner and accounting team
- Support recruiting, onboarding, and professional development of operations personnel
- Contribute to company culture by modeling integrity, responsiveness, and problem-solving
Ideal Candidate Profile
- 10+ years of experience in the elevator, construction, or mechanical trades industry
- 3+ years in a senior operations, general manager, or comparable leadership role
- Demonstrated experience managing field crews, project managers, subcontractors, and budgets
- Background in elevator modernization or construction preferred; mechanical and electronic controls knowledge is a plus
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, schematics and provide high-level guidance to teams
- Strong small-business mindset with comfort wearing multiple hats and building structure as the company grows
- Highly organized with strong follow-through; able to prioritize, delegate, and execute in a fast-paced environment
- Working knowledge of AIA forms, HUD documentation, permitting processes, and public bid requirements
- Clear, professional communication skills across office, field, and client-facing settings
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and Dropbox
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive base salary, commensurate with experience
- Performance-based year-end bonus tied to company profitability
- Profit-sharing potential
- Healthcare (premium reimbursement model)
- Dental and vision insurance
- Casual, respectful work environment
- Opportunity to earn equity over time
CAP Elevator is an equal opportunity employer.
