Are you in?Primary Purpose: PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

Manage personnel, budget and activities of the environmental program to support development and implementation of cost-effective compliance with applicable environmental laws, and regulations associated with all company operations. Oversee program plans for environmental compliance, site remediation, MGP projects and superfund activities including program objectives, budget, procurement plans, and shared project goals. Develop and maintain relationships with internal departments and external organizations, including regulatory agencies, & government officials to facilitate and leverage acceptance, approval, and funding of projects, regulatory engineering and environmental leadership positions. Position may be required to work extended hours for coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.

Primary Duties:

PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Manage a team of environmental professionals and contractors in the Atlantic City Electric region involved in permitting and compliance activities including risk based program objectives, budget, schedule and contractor management. Support negotiation of new contracts or changes to existing contracts that support business and regulatory objectives. Identify and implement business and technical best practices. (40%)
  • Ensure world-class performance of the company's Environmental Management System. Work collaboratively with Operations and Support Services to address environmental risks and the development of liability reduction programs. Ensure all environmental permitting, waste handling and tracking, spill prevention, pollution prevention, recycling, greenhouse gas reduction, leaking equipment and PCB reduction programs are effectively implemented and tracked. (10%)
  • Manage Department budget, establish and monitor business plans, objectives and goals. Lead development of program plans that drive process improvements and increase efficiency, utilize performance indicators to improve business integration and serve as change agent/consensus builder for business initiatives. (10%)
  • Lead, coach and develop the environmental team in a high performance culture while identifying opportunities for growth and learning. Conduct performance appraisal process and assure timely recognition of employee recognition. (10%)
  • Facilitate open and honest communication with work team staff and clients Assures that upward communication is integrated into the process, including employee grievances and complaints. Develop and employ methods to assess communication effectiveness and implement continuous improvement initiatives. (10%)
  • Develop and implement short and long-term strategic initiatives designed to assure the highest levels of performance and client service to achieve cost effective compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and support the company's safety, reliability and performance goals. Interface with various local, state and federal regulatory agencies. Anticipate and shape environmental legislation and regulations and interpret and implement necessary programs to address regulatory changes. Represent the Company in industry committees/external organizations to identify and influence emerging issues and regulations and benchmark environmental performance. (20%)
Job Scope: JOB SCOPE
  • Position involves direct supervisory oversight of environmental compliance specialists, environmental field services manager and remediation project managers and all environmental programs. Position involves influencing across business units, regulatory agencies, industry groups and external community on environmental initiatives and programs. The position includes responsibility for developing and managing annual O&M and capital budgets. The position also involves the ability to coach, influence and professionally develop employees as well as drive for accountability and achieve business results.
  • Position requires communication and interaction with company business units that include but not limited to Operations, Transmission and Substations, Real Estate and Facilities, Fleet, Supply, Project and Contract Management, Legal, Communications, External Affairs and Financial. Also work with other business units, such as Energy Acquisition, Marketing, Supply, etc, to ensure all environmental initiatives across the company are being tracked by Environmental Services.
  • Position also involves a demonstrated knowledge of federal, state and local environmental regulations as well as knowledge of remediation alternatives and technologies.
Minimum Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering or Science or related field.
  • Graduate degree or graduate level work in business or environmental science preferred.
  • 7-10 years of environmental program and project experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of federal, state and local regulatory issues
  • Demonstrated ability to work with outside agencies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the fundamental principles of leadership. Demonstrated ability to negotiate effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to build consensus, establish trust, communicate effectively and foster culture change.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement process enhancements and efficiencies including technology and performance.
  • Demonstrated business acumen, employee awareness and ability to create value.
  • In lieu of degree, 9-12 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications: PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering or Science or related field.
  • Graduate degree or graduate level work in business or environmental science preferred.
  • At least 8 years of environmental program and project experience including, 3 years supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of federal, state and local regulatory issues
  • Demonstrated ability to work with outside agencies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the fundamental principles of leadership. Demonstrated ability to negotiate effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to build consensus, establish trust, communicate effectively and foster culture change.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement process enhancements and efficiencies including technology and performance.
  • Demonstrated business acumen, employee awareness and ability to create value.

  • Annual salary will vary based on a candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $122,400.00/Yr. – $168,300.00/Yr.
