The BLS Instructor conducts training and education at the basic life support level in concert with the overall mission of the EMS training center. Provides logistical support for on-site and off-site courses, supports EMS training Center leadership through clerical and operational functions in addition to teaching courses.

Responsibilties

A day in the life of a BLS Instructor at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Able to conduct training and education at the basic life support level in concert with the overall mission of the EMS training center.
  • Provides logistics support for onsite and offsite course offerings.
  • Supports EMS training center leadership through clerical and operational functions in addition to teaching courses.
  • Needs to maintain EMS certification and BLS Instructor.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
  • A minimum of 2 years of Healthcare (EMT or higher level / or specialized instructor - addiction dispatch drug use) experience as a provider.
  • Must possess basic computer skills, including but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Strong Interpersonal Skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation.

Education, Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Preferred

  • Minimum of 1-year Instructor experience.

Licenses And Certifications Required

  • AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
  • BLS Instructor Trainer within 6 months of entering position.
  • Valid Driver's License from a USA state.

Licenses And Certifications Preferred

  • National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification, Emergency Medical Technician Instructor, Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic (MICP) Certification, Mobile Intensive Care Nurse (MICN) Certification, or a higher-level medical license.
  • AHA BLS Instructor Certification.
  • Emergency Medical Technician aid.
  • EMR Instructor Certification.

  • Regular contact with organizational team members, leaders, internal and external students, members of emergency response organizations and the community.

Working Conditions

  • Lifts a minimum of 5lbs, pushes and pulls a minimum of 25 lbs. and stands a minimum of 3 hours a day.
