Sterile Processing Team Leader - Full Time
- Sterilizes instruments, equipment, linen and supplies using various types of autoclaves and aerators. Loads autoclaves in prescribed manner and sets controls to specified time and temperature according to the type being sterilized. Completes appropriate documentation records prior to sterilization. Reads and initials the autoclave graph to verify that all requirements have been met.
- Assembles all instrument procedure trays, packs, supply carts following prescribed manner using protocol content lists as a guide. Marks items with identifying data and distributes or stores in designated areas.
- Dispenses products requested by verbal, written or telephone requisitions for equipment and supplies. Identifies and assigns priority to emergency requisitions and required supplies and equipment based on knowledge of procedure requested.
- Disassembles and cleans equipment using detergents. Reassembles equipment and operates to test for proper functioning.
- Disassembles and cleans procedure trays and instruments using detergent following established procedures. Replaces lost or damaged instruments as required to complete the tray.
- Obtains, completes and submits all inter and intra departmental forms following the established procedure to verify appropriate work assignments.
- Maintains assigned work areas and equipment in a clean and organized condition to maintain required standards for the handling of sterilized and clean materials and equipment.
- Performs other related duties as required such as examining sterilization/expiration dates, reporting inoperable equipment, making visual inventory inspections to maintain adequate levels of stock and supplies, tests effectiveness of autoclaves by assembling and placing culture spore tests and total air removal tests in autoclaves. Checks all autoclaves for proper working condition and correctly dated graphs.
- Processes patient charges, traces lost or incomplete charges on transferred equipment for accurate charges to the patient as needed.
- Participates in departmental performance improvement activities.
- Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
- Maintains regulatory requirements.
- Ensures delivery of excellent customer service resulting in positive and improving patient satisfaction scores for department and Medical Center.
- Assists with control of the operational functions in conjunction with the requirements of all areas.
- Assumes responsibility for the workflow in the absence of management personnel.
- Works with the Central Service Manager in developing quality monitors, in-service programs and orientation programs.
- Assists in investigation of problem areas or complaints concerning inter and intra departmental operation.
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
- Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
- High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in Central Supply.
- Must have a thorough knowledge of aseptic technique, sterilization techniques, infection control requirements, and a basic knowledge of medical/surgical procedure and terminology.
- Willingness to accept new ideas and work under stressful conditions.
- Has and maintains current Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) registration.
