Position Title: Full Time Assistant Food Service Coordinator
Status: Non-Exempt (35 hours per week)
Reports To: Food Service Coordinator
Hourly Rate: $19–$22 per hour
POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant Food Service Coordinator to join our team at Archbishop Damiano School. In this role, you will work closely with the Food Service Coordinator to ensure the smooth operation of the school kitchen and maintain a high standard of nutrition and culinary excellence. The ideal candidate will have strong culinary skills, a passion for serving students, and a solid understanding of Department of Education nutrition guidelines.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Culinary Expertise:
- Demonstrate exceptional culinary skills to prepare high-quality, nutritious meals for students with diverse dietary needs and restrictions.
- Utilize knowledge of food allergies, sensitivities, and dietary requirements to support the planning and preparation of meals for special needs students.
Compliance with Department of Education Guidelines:
- Stay informed and up to date with the Department of Education's guidelines on school nutrition.
- Ensure that all meals comply with nutritional standards and portion control as specified by the Department of Education.
Kitchen Management:
- Oversee daily kitchen operations, ensuring a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Support kitchen staff, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Collaborate with the Food Service Coordinator to create menus that meet the nutritional needs of special needs students.
Menu Planning and Development:
- Assist in the development of nutritious and appealing menus that meet dietary requirements.
- Collaborate with the Food Service Coordinator to adapt menus for individual dietary restrictions.
Food Preparation:
- Directly engage in food preparation, cooking, and presentation, maintaining high standards of quality and taste.
- Ensure that meals are prepared and served in a timely manner, adhering to scheduled mealtimes and food service guidelines.
Health and Safety Compliance:
- Enforce strict hygiene and safety protocols to maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen.
- Monitor food storage, handling, and temperature controls to prevent contamination and ensure food safety.
TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT:
- Train and guide kitchen staff to ensure compliance with dietary guidelines.
- Assign tasks to staff and reinforce consistent kitchen standards.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of ordering, inventory control, and food prep equipment.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects.
- Knowledge of food safety, temperature requirements, and presentation standards.
- Strong cooking skills.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proven experience in a culinary role, with at least (3) years of experience in a similar capacity.
- A culinary degree or relevant certification is preferred.
- Current Food Service Sanitation Certificate.
- Approved criminal history review (NJDOE).
- Experience working with special dietary needs.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Exposure to kitchen-related heat, cold, odors, and noise.
- Standing, walking, bending, pushing, pulling, reaching, kneeling, and precise hand movements.
