Job Title: Phlebotomist

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist who has experience in blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifuging, and maintaining data records. The ideal candidate will also be responsible for updating patient information and decontamination procedures.

Responsibilities

• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods clearly and courteously.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Understand and follow all physicians' orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.
• Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label them, and follow procedures outlined for transport to maintain specimen integrity.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 6 months experience in phlebotomy.
• Proficiency in blood draws and blood drawing techniques.
• Experience with centrifuge and blood pressure procedures.
• Ability to handle hard stick situations.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• GED or High School Diploma.
• Preferable experience in an OBGYN setting.

Work Environment

This position involves working on Saturdays from 9am to 5pm. The work may be conducted within smaller office settings or Patient Service Centers, providing exposure to varied environments within a larger company.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Jersey City, New Jersey.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
