Duties Description Trades Specialist Electrician will perform a variety of skilled electrical repairs, installation of new circuits and various electrical repairs in multiple community residences and various other buildings as well as the main Westfall campus. - Performs journeyman level electrical duties.- Working knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in electrical trade.- Repairs, maintains, and installs electrical systems and equipment including but not limited to fixtures, motors, load centers, relays, controls, circuitry, and related equipment in accordance with the National Electrical Code.- Locates and determines electrical malfunctions using test instruments such as ammeter, volt meter and ohmmeter.- Plans new or modifies installations consistent with specifications and national electrical code.- Will be required to plan and lay out work, develop time and material lists for projects assigned.- Will be required to read and interpret plans, codes, diagrams, architectural blueprints and specifications.- Tests, adjusts, calibrates and maintains a wide variety of control equipment, including but not limited to building heating, air conditioning, and ventilating equipment controls for refrigeration; and for a wide variety of other equipment and systems.- Performs maintenance, and preventative maintenance on mechanical equipment including but not limited to bathroom exhaust fans, clothes dryers, sump pumps and generators. May be required to train and supervise others.- Requires daily travel within the 10 county district.PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:- Working knowledge of safety standards and procedures.- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions. Candidate will be trained in the operations and maintenance procedures as related to Asbestos Containing Materials.- Basic computer skills preferred.- Valid NYS Driver's License.

Minimum Qualifications Non-competitive: Four years of full-time experience in the electrical trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program, OR an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in the electrical trade at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services; OR successful completion of the two-year Trades Specialist (Electrician) traineeship or a two-year electrician training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program* such as the New York State Civil Service Employees Association-Partnership Applied Skilled Trades Traineeship and Certificate Program.* Successful completion of the traineeship and the training program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific class room instruction, 45 hours of technical math course work, 45 hours of technical communications course work, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading course work. Course work must be completed with an average of "C" or better. Additionally, successful completion of the traineeship also includes 4,000 hours of on-the-job training. When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated. Trades Specialist (Electrician) Trainee 1, NS (equivalent to SG-9):Full-time permanent service in a position allocated at Grade 12 or below which is primarily engaged in the performance of unskilled and/or semiskilled labor and trades - 6 - tasks; must be 18 years of age or older; possess a High School diploma or general equivalency diploma recognized by the New York State Education Department; and be proficient in English and math.Trades Specialist (Electrician) Trainee 2, NS (equivalent to SG-11):Successful completion of a 52-week probationary period as a Trades Specialist (Electrician) Trainee 1; OR completion of 45 hours of technical math coursework and 15 hours of blueprint reading/schematics coursework or passage of an equivalency exam or proof of successful completion of equivalent training, 144 hours of electrician trade specific instruction, and 2,000 hours of on-the-job training. Trainees must maintain a "C" or better average in their coursework.

Additional Comments Salary range listed below encompasses the hiring rate of a Trades Specialist (Electrician) Trainee 1 through the job rate of a Trades Specialist (Electrician). Candidates hired at the trainee level will be advanced to the full performance Trades Specialist (Electrician), SG-12 following successful completion of the traineeship. - Trades Specialist (Electrician) Trainee 1: $42,641 - Trades Specialist (Electrician) Trainee 2: $47,695 - Trades Specialist (Electrician): $50,425 - $61,548 - For CSEA positions: Local Bidding Agreements will be honored. - Preference will be given to OPWDD employees impacted by closures. Continued employment will depend on maintaining eligibility. - If you are employed by state government you may be able to receive loan forgiveness under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF). The PSLF Program forgives the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments have been made under a qualifying repayment plan while working full-time for a qualifying employer.
