Position Overview Bus Company Holdings US, LLC (dba Coach USA), a motorcoach transportation company, is seeking a highly analytical and operationally engaged Assistant Controller to support the District Controller in overseeing daily accounting operations within a complex transportation environment. The Assistant Controller plays a critical role in maintaining financial accuracy, operational alignment, and regulatory compliance across multiple service lines and locations. This position requires strong technical accounting expertise combined with the ability to interpret operational performance drivers, including labor utilization, route revenue, passenger metrics, service delivery indicators, and fuel tax exposure. The ideal candidate brings deep accounting experience, a strong internal control mindset, and the ability to translate financial data into meaningful business insight that supports sound business decisions.
Essential Functions
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of monthly journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
- Contribute to consolidated financial reporting across divisions and operating locations
- Oversee and analyze revenue streams across fixed-route, charter, transit/commuter, and contract services
- Interpret operational data (mileage, missed trips, passenger counts) to validate financial performance and reporting accuracy
- Review billing processes and ensure compliance with contractual agreements
- Support revenue forecasting and provide detailed budget-to-actual variance analysis with actionable insights
- Prepare financial statements, business activity reports, financial forecasts, and annual budgets
- Support timely and accurate regulatory reporting, including National Transit Database (NTD) submissions, applicable state reporting (including 17A), federal reporting, and fuel tax filings
- Conduct monthly bank reconciliations and ensure proper cash controls
- Manage monthly shared-cost allocations and intercompany expense distributions
- Prepare monthly statistical and operational performance reports
- Compile executive-level financial summary analyses and respond to ad hoc reporting requests
- Support audit preparation and maintain robust internal control documentation
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Controller or General Manager
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities

- Strong business acumen with the ability to translate complex financial data into actionable business insights
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to meet strict reporting deadlines
- Strong documentation, audit-support, and internal control discipline
- Proven ability to manage and continuously improve financial processes
- Minimum of 5-8 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including responsibility for financial reporting and operational support
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, advanced lookups, and financial modeling
- Experience with Oracle and TBN is a plus
- Strong critical thinking and data interpretation skills
- Transportation industry experience preferred
