Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist V for the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine (CABM). The Mulle Laboratory at CABM is seeking an outstanding Research Teaching Specialist V to join an exciting, fast-paced project studying rare genetic variants associated with neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorders. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Teaching Specialist V will assist with performing research activities to understand the phenotypic spectrum of a rare genetic syndrome associated with autism, cognitive disability, and other phenotypes. This will be accomplished with the use of gold-standard instruments that will be administered remotely (via zoom). Training will be provided (experience is a plus). Under the direction of the PI, the Research Teaching Specialist V will be expected to perform and document informed consent of our study subjects, perform evaluations to measure cognitive performance, social disability, executive function deficits, and early features of psychosis/schizophrenia. The Research Teaching Specialist V will score instruments according to manufacturers' instructions and enter scores and raw data into a central database. In addition, the Research Teaching Specialist V will write up results of the evaluations and return these to the study subjects. The incumbent will have the opportunity to analyze data, assist with writing manuscripts, and present findings at regional and national conferences. The Research Teaching Specialist V will be expected to maintain effective communication and active discussion related to the involved research with the Principal Investigator and other members of the research team. Good research practices including the ability to manage sensitive and confidential data are required. The candidate is expected to be proficient in spoken and written English. This is a grant-funded position contingent on the continued availability of funds to support it. Among the key duties of this position are the following:- As directed, performs various research activities relative to the ongoing investigatory activities of the laboratory aimed at understanding the phenotypic spectrum of a rare genetic syndrome associated with autism, cognitive disability, and other phenotypes.
- Performs and documents informed consent with study subjects.
- Remotely administers evaluations to assess various aspects of cognitive function and the presence of behavioral and psychiatric disability.
- Keeps detailed records of research activities, scores evaluations, and enters results into a centralized database.
- Interacts effectively with study subjects and their families.
- Maintains the highest standard of confidentiality and implements good research practices related to sensitive data.
- Bachelor's Degree in Psychology or a related discipline is required.
- The candidate is expected to be proficient in spoken and written English.
- Excellent communication skills are required.
- Must understand and follow Good Research Practice Guidelines.
- Prior experience with Human Subjects research is a plus.
- Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, walking, talking, seeing, and hearing. Manual dexterity and vision sufficient for administering evaluations and observing behavior. Computer data input required.
- Work Environment: Laboratory and Office environment. Universal precautions are mandatory.
