School Nurse

Location: New Jersey

Employment Type: Full-Time, 10-Months (Benefits Eligible)

This role is based in a boarding school environment serving a diverse adolescent student population. The position emphasizes compassionate, professional healthcare delivery and fostering student wellness in a safe, supportive setting.

Compensation & Benefits

• Base Salary: $32–38/hour, depending on experience and qualifications

• Relocation Assistance: Possible relocation on case-by-case basis

• Shift: Overnight or Day

• Benefits Package: Eligible for full benefits as part of a 10-month contract

Job Summary

The School Nurse provides essential healthcare services to boarding school students, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being. This role includes delivering direct patient care, administering medications, supporting health education, and collaborating with staff to maintain a safe and caring environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide holistic patient care for adolescents, including routine and emergency needs.
• Perform comprehensive physical and psycho-social assessments to determine appropriate interventions.
• Administer prescription and over-the-counter medications safely and monitor for effectiveness or side effects.
• Coordinate care with physicians, specialists, or local hospitals as needed.
• Support student wellness through first aid, health education, and disease prevention.
• Maintain accurate and confidential health records, including immunizations and treatment documentation.
• Complete accident and incident reports as required.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory and school health policies.
• Communicate with kindness, professionalism, and sensitivity in all interactions with students, families, and staff.
• Prioritize tasks effectively in a busy and sometimes high-pressure environment.
• Collaborate with other health professionals and school staff to ensure a safe and supportive environment.
• Utilize strong technology skills for electronic health record management and communication.

Minimum Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse license in NJ or a compact license.
• Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience, preferably in adolescent care, family medicine, school nursing, emergency, or critical care.
• Strong assessment, clinical, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently with sound judgment and discretion.
• Must successfully pass state background checks.
• Prior school or residential nursing experience preferred.
