The Part-Time Paid Leave Navigator provides individualized support to workers and families seeking to understand and access paid family and medical leave benefits in NJ. The Navigator helps clients interpret eligibility rules, complete applications, and navigate NJ state and employer leave programs.

Essential Functions

  • Offer one-on-one assistance to individuals exploring paid leave options, including NJ state programs, employer benefits, and federal protections
  • Explain eligibility, qualifying events, benefit timelines, and job-protection rules in accessible language
  • Support clients in completing applications and gathering required documentation
  • Provide limited follow-up support to ensure clients understand next steps and respond to department requests
  • Attend required training on paid leave laws, including NJ state paid family and medical leave programs, FMLA, and ADA considerations
  • Identify when clients may qualify for multiple programs and help coordinate benefits appropriately
  • Present at workshops, webinars, or community events to raise awareness about paid leave options. Build and maintain relationships with community partners and service providers
  • Maintain accurate records of client interactions and presentations for reporting purposes
  • Identify barriers faced by underserved communities and help inform program improvements

Requirements:
  • High School diploma is required; Bachelor’s degree in public health or related field preferred
  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish required
  • Experience in social services, human resources, case management, benefits navigation, or a related field is required
  • Knowledge of paid leave laws, disability benefits, or employment protections preferred
  • Experience working with diverse communities
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex policies clearly is required
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and client-centered service
