Assistant Infant/Toddler Teacher
Summary We are looking for a qualified candidate to serve as an Infant/Toddler Program Assistant Teacher at our Preschool that has been part of the Somerset Hills Community for 30 years. Our school provides care and education to children 3 months old through 6 years old. The position is part-time 16 to 20 hours per week. We are currently seeking candidates that can work Monday through Thursday or Monday through Friday from 7:15am-11:15am. As an Infant Teacher you will provide a nurturing and safe environment for infants to develop and reach age-appropriate milestones. You will demonstrate good judgement in the care and play with each infant assigned to you. You will verbally engage the infants throughout the morning in addition to incorporating play activities. You will maintain the feeding schedule with the bottles and solids provided by the parents. An Infant Assistant Teacher or Teacher must have a great love and patience for babies and toddlers. You will make sure that Infants in your care will be safe at all times.
As a State of New Jersey licensed childcare provider, all employees must participate in a background check that includes fingerprinting. Employment is contingent upon the results of all background checks. New employees must fill out a job application, provide references and get a clearance to work that includes a TB test from their healthcare provider. Duties · Provide a safe and loving environment for the babies and toddlers in your care.
· Follow direction of Lead Teacher and Administration on how to care for children.
· Feed/Diaper/Nap children according to each child’s individual schedule.
· Maintain constant supervision of babies and toddlers in your classroom including during nap time.
· Record children’s day on running record to be sent home daily.
· Change diapers as needed according to provided protocol.
· Soothe babies by engaging with them in different ways, such as singing, reading, holding, etc.
· Supervise babies and toddlers on the floor as they play with age-appropriate toys.
· Provide activities to support baby and toddler’s development that is age appropriate. Training will be provided.
· Ensure play, sleep & changing areas are kept clean according to standards consistent with health and safety standards that you will be trained in.
· Communicate with parents about their children's day as needed.
· Maintain positive and open relationships with families.
· Work collaboratively with other teachers and be able to take direction. Requirements · Experience working with Infants and/or Toddlers. Other age preschool experience considered.
· Ability to juggle fast-paced environment at busy times of the day (arrival/dismissal/mealtime).
· Ability to care for 3-4 babies at a time, in a room of up to 7-8 babies with 3-4 teachers.
· Familiarity with safety and sanitation guidelines for classrooms, including following cleaning practices implemented by the school. Training provided. Custodians do deep cleaning nightly.
· Excellent communication skills.
· Maintain confidentiality for all students and co-workers.
· Be able to take direction.
· Cool-tempered, friendly and reliable.
· Willingness to earn CPR certification. School offers CPR training to employees at no cost at specific times during the school year.
· Have reliable transportation to and from our school and arrive to work on time as per schedule.
· Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
· Ability to get on and off the floor multiple times throughout the day.
· Ability to bend over and lift children from floor, changing table and cribs throughout the day.
· Willingness to seek-out additional Professional Development opportunities on infant and toddler care and development throughout the school year to meet the minimum 12 hours of PD required by the state. Free PD opportunities will be shared with staff.
· Ability to be a team-player, learn from teaching staff, ask questions and be flexible.
· Ability to multi-task, meeting the individual needs of more than one child at a time.
· Complete a NJ State background check and fingerprinting and provide negative TB test results. Nice To Haves · Experience working with Infants and Toddlers with a state licensed childcare provider for 2+ years.
· Higher Education in an education-related field preferable.
· BS/BA in Early Education (earned or in pursuit of) considered first.
· Early Childhood CDA.
· Certification in child CPR. Benefits · No late hours. Programs end at 4:30pm, Monday through Friday.

· Staff scheduled for an average of 26-30 hours per week for a minimum of 6 consecutive months receive free enrollment in retirement plan with vesting after 3 years.
· Staff scheduled for an average of 26-30 hours per week for a minimum of 6 consecutive months receive free disability benefits following probationary period.
