Tax & Client Accounting Professional

Location: Clifton, NJ
Employment Type: Direct Hire, Full-Time, On-Site
Compensation: Base salary up to $130,000 depending on experience, plus paid overtime at 1.5x for hours worked over 35 per week

CornerStone Professional Placement is working with a well-established CPA firm in Clifton, NJ that is looking to add to their tax and accounting team.

This is a good fit for someone with public accounting or CPA firm experience who enjoys working with individuals, small businesses, partnerships, S-corps, trusts, and closely held companies. The firm has a close-knit local office feel, but also has the support and reach of a larger accounting network.

They are open to a range of experience levels. This could fit someone earlier in their career who wants to keep developing, or someone more senior who is looking for more client interaction, ownership, and long-term growth.

What you'll be doing

• Prepare and review individual and business tax returns
• Work on partnership, S-corp, C-corp, trust, and small business returns
• Handle federal, New Jersey, and New York tax filings
• Review client financial records, workpapers, and supporting documents
• Help identify deductions, credits, and planning opportunities
• Communicate with clients to gather information and answer questions
• Support bookkeeping, financial statement preparation, and client accounting work
• Get involved in advisory work as client needs come up
• Help support and mentor junior staff depending on experience level

What they're looking for

• 2+ years of tax, accounting, or public accounting experience
• CPA firm experience is strongly preferred
• Experience with individual and small business tax returns
• Exposure to partnerships, S-corps, C-corps, trusts, estates, or high-net-worth clients is a plus
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field preferred
• CPA, CPA candidate, or someone working toward CPA is preferred
• NJ/NY tax experience is a plus
• Experience with CCH Axcess, ProSystem, QuickBooks, Engagement, Knowledge Coach, or similar software is helpful
• Strong attention to detail and good communication skills
• Comfortable working directly with clients or interested in growing into more client-facing work
