Job Overview:
The Pharmacy Technician assists in the provision of pharmaceutical services under supervision of the Registered Pharmacist by performing the technical, clerical and manipulative tasks involved in dispensing, preparing, and distributing all medications and pharmaceutical products for all patient age groups includes geriatrics, adult, adolescent, pediatric and neonatal. Work and/or performance shall conform to written established policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
Required:
- HS diploma or GED equivalent
- 1 year of pharmacy experience
- Registered with the Board of Pharmacy within 6 months of start date.
- Successful completion of all orientations.
Preferred:
- Associates degree preferred
Scheduling Requirements:
- Full-Time, Day, Hourly – 37.5 hours a week
- Shift is 10 AM to 6 PM
- On-site at our Infusion & Specialty Pharmacy located at 603 Montrose Ave South Plainfield, NJ
Essential Functions:
- Understands and participates on different committees or plans.
- Willing to be cross-trained to work or assist in other areas.
- Helps co-workers when appropriate.
- Willingness and flexible to work alternating work schedules on short notice.
- Pull and count medications accurately.
- Accurately order medications and supplies through Cardinal Health.
- Order medications and supplies in a timely manner, making sure pharmacy is properly stocked.
- Complete all QA logs accurately, timely, and entered into Simplifi, daily refrigerator, freezer, & room temp, maintenance of pill counter, etc.
- Compound non-sterile medications under pharmacist supervision.
- Maintain an accurate record of expired medications.
- Removing from shelf and removing from inventory.
- Keep shelves, counters, filling area neat and clean.
- Rotating medication shelves to follow FIFO.
- Answer non-clinical phone calls.
- Create delivery tickets, organize impulse delivers, and contact patients about their order.
- Return medications and supplies to proper areas.
- Review and resolve discrepancies in the Cardinal Inventory Management.
- Return unused or over ordered medications to vendors in a timely manner.
- Initiate refill calls for patients per weekly schedule.
- Enter inventory daily to keep an accurate count of medications in stock.
- Provides a compassionate and supportive environment with prompt and consistent service.
- Adheres to patient rights: provides for the confidential treatment of all communications and records.
- Demonstrates professionalism with families, visitors, Physicians, co-workers and supervisors.
- Supports teamwork by cooperative problem solving through participation in meetings, projects, etc.
- Utilizes principles of continuous quality improvement in all work situations to assess, measure and improve organizational and department functions.
- Organizes work sets priorities with a minimum of supervision and seeks guidance as appropriate.
- Makes decisions that are timely and consistent with department, objectives, policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates sound judgment, accepts, and benefits from constructive criticism.
- Participates in ongoing education as required.
- Demonstrates knowledge of codes and responds as appropriate.
- Documents staff, patient incidents and notifies individuals of the events.
- Utilizes effective infection control practices, such as hand washing, glove disposal, etc.
- Demonstrates correct operation of equipment, troubleshoots, and reports malfunctioning, broken equipment and removes from service.
- Demonstrates ability to troubleshoot equipment when difficulties are experienced, reports malfunctioning, broken equipment and removes from service.
- Responds appropriately to emergency situations.
- Utilizes and adheres to proper precautions with hazardous materials and proper waste disposal.
- Maintains proper body mechanics in the performance of job duties.
- Is knowledgeable of, adheres to and promotes the Compliance Code of Conduct.
