Shift Manager DSO
Directs and is responsible for optimizing the practices, policies, procedures and programs to operate the Exelon Utilities (EU) electric or electric and gas distribution systems during normal and emergency conditions in a safe, reliable and efficient manner with the welfare of employees, customers, the public and shareholders in mind. Supervise on-shift distribution personnel (Dispatchers) on a 24/7 basis. Maintain proper dispatcher staffing levels for normal and emergency operations. Monitor overall system status and initiate emergency procedures during storms, system disturbances, and security events. Oversee system configuration and ensure maintenance of equipment/facilities affecting such. Maintain and apply a working knowledge of the Exelon Management Model for business controls and meet management's expectation for conducting effective business. Position may be required to work extended hours for coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies.
Primary Duties: PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES- Supervise, monitor, and direct the daily distribution system operations to ensure the safe reliable operation of the distribution system and compliance with department and corporate policies and procedures. (30%)
- Supervise shift personnel and maintain proper staffing levels consistent with distribution system activity levels and manage dispatcher overtime. Administer personnel shift schedules. Supervise Operations Control Center and Dispatch restoration activities during storms, system disturbances, and emergency events. (15%)
- Manage the flow of information to and from the Operations Control Center and Dispatch. Provide single point of contact for corporate management with regard to distribution system conditions, emergencies, and security events. (15%)
- Monitor overall system conditions and initiate emergency procedures during storms, system disturbances, and security events (10%)
- Establish repair priorities for distribution lines and equipment and substation lines and equipment. (10%)
- Enforce established policies, procedures, and guidelines on distribution system operation. (10%)
- Manage personnel by implementing the performance evaluation process, provide coaching for management personnel, and evaluate personnel for the purpose of salary administration. (10%)
- Designate of authority responsible for the operation of the Electrical Distribution System, which includes138kV, 69kV, 34kV, 12kV and 4kV lines and substations. The consequences of operating errors and omissions or improper system operation could cost the company millions of dollars in direct, indirect, and intangible costs; replacement of damaged company and / or customer equipment and subsequent litigation costs, injuries and / or loss of life associated with improper operation of the system; and the intangibles of damage to the company image.
- Supervise the day-to-day operation of a 7x24 hour facility.
- Overall budget impact is considerable. Staffing, shift coverage, and overtime considerations are major component of overall Operations Control Center budget.
- High school diploma AND at 9-12 years relevant utility experience with at least 5 years as System Dispatcher, Sr. Technical Specialist or DSO Supervision OR
- BS in Engineering, Computer Science, Business or job-related technical field AND 7-10 years relevant utility experience with at least 3 years DSO or other distribution experience
- Thorough understanding of the EED transmission and distribution system, the ability to recognize system configuration and loading issues, ability to formulate contingency plans, and thorough knowledge and understanding of proper operating procedures.
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated analytical skills and judgment
- Demonstrated ability to respond to emergencies and manage stressful situations
- Two years college in an engineering curriculum
- 3-5 years of supervisory experience.
- Annual salary will vary based on a candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, and other factors: $125,600.00/Yr. – $172,700.00/Yr.
