Job Description
This Civil Engineer role focuses on designing and reviewing a wide range of site and civil projects, including stormwater management, detention basins, land development, and infrastructure rehabilitation. You will prepare technical reports and permit applications, ensure development plans comply with local ordinances, and support permitting efforts with state and local agencies. The position also offers the opportunity to mentor junior engineers and contribute to a collaborative, multidisciplinary team in a growing, established firm.
Responsibilities
- Design stormwater management systems, including detention basins and related drainage infrastructure, for municipal and land development projects.
- Plan and design infrastructure rehabilitation projects, ensuring compliance with applicable engineering standards and best practices.
- Prepare detailed technical reports that clearly present design assumptions, calculations, findings, and recommendations.
- Prepare and submit complete and accurate permit applications to state and local agencies, including NJDEP and NJDOT.
- Review subdivision plans and utility plans submitted by developers for approval, ensuring they meet engineering standards and regulatory requirements.
- Review development plans for conformance with local ordinances, including subdivision and land development regulations.
- Perform drafting, design, and engineering calculations for site and civil projects, including grading and layout of site plans.
- Develop and assemble complete drawing sets, ensuring all design details, notes, and references are accurate and coordinated.
- Use Civil 3D to create and modify models, drawings, and design documents for municipal and land development projects.
- Collaborate with internal team members across multiple disciplines to coordinate designs and resolve technical issues.
- Mentor and review the work of junior engineers, providing guidance, feedback, and quality control on their designs and calculations.
- Support project delivery by managing priorities, meeting deadlines, and communicating progress and issues to the project team.
Essential Skills
- Extensive experience in the engineering industry, with approximately 15 years of relevant civil engineering experience.
- in civil engineering design, including site and land development projects.
- Proficiency with Civil 3D for use on municipal and land development projects in New Jersey.
- Demonstrated experience in stormwater design, including drainage systems and detention basins.
- Experience with grading design and preparation of grading plans for site and civil projects.
- Ability to prepare and review technical reports, design calculations, and engineering documentation.
- Experience reviewing subdivision and utility plans for compliance with local ordinances and engineering standards.
- Knowledge of subdivision and land development regulations and their application to development projects.
- Experience preparing permit applications and supporting documentation for NJDEP and NJDOT.
- Professional Engineer (PE) credential or strong experience working at a professional engineer level.
- Ability to mentor and review the work of junior engineers, providing technical oversight and guidance.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for coordination with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working on municipal projects and land development projects within New Jersey.
- Familiarity with local permitting processes and coordination with state and local agencies.
- Experience in a multidisciplinary engineering environment, collaborating with multiple divisions or specialties.
- Ability to contribute to a team-focused culture and participate in a collaborative approach to project delivery.
- Interest in contributing to the growth and evolution of an established engineering practice undergoing expansion.
Work Environment
This role offers a hybrid work arrangement, with two days working from home and three days in the office each week. You will join a multidisciplinary team of approximately 14 people across three divisions, providing a close-knit, collaborative environment with direct interaction across disciplines. The firm has been in business for over 20 years and maintains a strong base of repeat clients, offering stability and a consistent workload. The organization emphasizes a team-oriented culture, treating growth and change as a shared effort rather than a top-down directive. Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Lambertville, NJ.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $120000.00 - $150000.00/yr.
Med, dental, and vision with a 3% match on 401K (90 day intro period) 8 Holidays and PTO is up to 3 weeks pending the tenure of the employee Been in business for 20 plus years and has a quality base of repeat customers. 14 people currently over 3 division (multidisciplinary) company outings
