A family in Montclair is seeking a professional full-time nanny / household manager for their 5-month-old and 2-year-old. The position will be Monday through Friday from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm.
Duties include:
Planning developmentally appropriate indoor and outdoor activities. Driving the toddler to preschool. Tidying the children’s bedrooms and playroom, keeping toys, books, and clothes organized and rotated. Making appointments for the children. Providing infant care including: preparing and cleaning bottles, feeding, managing nap schedule. Preparing light meals and snacks for the toddler and occasionally simple, healthy meals for the whole family. Grocery shopping on occasion. Doing the children’s laundry. Tidying up the main living area (deep cleaning done by the housekeeper). Completing tasks to keep the household running smoothly such as loading, starting, and unloading the dishwasher. Providing occasional date-night childcare, with notice and overtime pay. Helping with the family’s laundry is a plus but not required.
Ideal nanny:The ideal nanny for this family is warm, patient, playful, emotionally attuned, and able to connect with the children on their level. They are skilled in early childhood development, and enjoy reading to children. They have excellent communication skills and are verbal, open, and emotionally intelligent. The ideal nanny understands and supports gentle discipline with firm, kind boundaries. They are energetic, outdoor-oriented, and take initiative to plan enriching nature-based and movement-based activities. The candidate should be able to maintain a calm and organized environment and is ideally tidy by nature, willing to take on an organizational project, even if the family is out of town. They should be development-focused and be able to teach emotional regulation. The ideal nanny will have experience with healthy meal prep and are a non-smoker with a healthy lifestyle and a clean driving record. Looking for someone who is proactive and self-directed, but collaborative with parents. In short, someone who will create and maintain order among parents who have difficulty doing so! Bonus if trained in Montessori, RIE, or other respectful parenting methods. The ability to swim is a must and willingness to travel with the family is a plus.
About the children:
This two-year-old is energetic, playful, sweet, adventurous, and outgoing. She has a strong interest in music, books, physical activity, socializing with both people and animals, and engaging with nature. She is a natural leader with big feelings who likes to talk. She may occasionally hit if she can’t find the words. She will participate in a half-day “pre-preschool” program three days a week. She attends additional classes and has playdates with friends throughout the week.
The 5-month-old is adorable, happy, smiley, and fussy, usually for a reason.
