RWJBarnabas Health, the largest health care provider in NJ, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced leader to serve as the Medical Director of Cardiac Surgery at University Hospital in Newark. This role provides critical administrative and clinical leadership, overseeing program quality, staff development, and multidisciplinary collaboration to ensure the delivery of safe, evidence-based patient care.

The ideal candidate will be board-certified in Cardiothoracic Surgery with a minimum of five years of clinical experience and a proven track record in quality improvement or program leadership. Clinically, this surgeon will provide comprehensive care across the full spectrum of adult cardiac surgery—including preoperative evaluation, operative management, and postoperative critical care—while utilizing advanced techniques such as minimally invasive, endovascular, and mechanical circulatory support. Administratively, the Director will lead quality assurance activities, monitor clinical outcomes using STS data, and serve as a vital liaison between surgery, cardiology, and hospital administration.

The anticipated salary range for this position if hired to work is $658,658 - $1,112,208. The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate’s educational background, skills, and professional experience.
