The Role

The position of Account Director, Business Development is responsible for driving incremental revenue growth within the NAMER region from assigned segments by using general business acumen to prospect and expand our business reach.
The primary focus will be on identifying and developing new business opportunities across multiple industries and business segments, including corporate, infrastructure, and other high-growth sectors that align with WH&R brand offerings. The position will be responsible for proactively identifying and engaging with potential clients, nurturing relationships, and driving new business growth through research, identification, qualification, conversion, account activation and ultimate graduation to another seller/team based on industry segmentation and customer profile. All new accounts retained by Account Director, Business Development should be highly engaged with a strong long-term potential for growth.

Overall, this position will require a strong skill set and affinity for business development. Leads for new business may be provided or may need to be self-cultivated through research tools, industry reports, etc. Desired qualities include exceptional communication skills, persistence, adaptability, tenacity, creativity, superb organization skills and proficiency with systems and processes.

The team member should possess a good knowledge of WH&R brands, as well as overall company strategy and associated management process and practice. The team member may represent at customer facing events and internal meetings where potential revenue opportunities are presented. Strong communication and collaboration skills are required to navigate effectively throughout the organization.

What you'll do

Account Acquisition

Must be able to utilize tools such as LinkedIn, Dodge Data & Analytics, Google Alerts, ZoomInfo and other tools, as assigned, to research companies to identify customer potential and develop communication tactics to reach out, secure response, and qualify the customer. This will require extensive in-person, email, and telephone solicitation to gain engagement to qualify potential new accounts.

Position will also leverage internal reporting to help identify and find new business opportunities while ensuring WH&R optimizes participation in trades shows and customer facing events where new revenue opportunities are available.

Account Management

Once a new account is converted, use appropriate tools and tactics to solidify engagement and expand contact network with an organization to optimize revenue generation to WH&R properties. This will entail gaining an understanding of customer’s business, communicating value proposition across multiple business units/office locations/travel influencers and using the various tools within Wyndham Business to most efficiently and effectively grow partnership.

Cross Functional Collaboration

Effective communication with internal customers including Operations, Brand Leaders, Regional Leads and the field sales teams to maximize and leverage all revenue opportunities. Partner with marketing to effectively drive traffic to Wyndham Business and collaborate with Wyndham University on any and all franchisee facing educational offerings.

You'll be successful if you have

  • Experience with customers with both unmanaged and managed travel programs.
  • Strong understanding of the GDS and the various online booking tools (ie Concur).
  • Stay current on key segment trends related to key industries identified by leadership.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Work consists of moderately complex procedures where strong selling skills are required.
  • Must be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.
  • Must be able to work well in stressful, high-pressure situations, including ability to handle client objections and disputes to achieve satisfactory results.
  • Work requires using original and creative thinking to maximize revenue results. The results generally impact several departments including franchise properties and managed properties.
  • Understanding of competitive landscape and strengths/opportunities associated to WH&R position.
  • Identifying and overcoming challenges through collaboration with colleagues, supervisors and other stakeholders. This requires judgment such as setting priorities, evaluating results, or coordinating with cross functional teams.
  • Excellent computer skills; Microsoft Office (Excel, Powerpoint, TEAMS, etc).
  • Ability to stay objective and fair when dealing with sensitive internal and external customer situations, maintain constructive working relationships and must maintain composure and objectivity under pressure.
  • Demonstrated self-starter, exhibiting initiative, confidence, professionalism and good judgment, including anticipating what needs to be done before it becomes a necessity.
  • Must be effective at listening, understanding, and clarifying the concerns and issues raised by customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet simultaneous deadlines with degree of attention to detail.
  • Exhibit a high level of accountability; results-oriented, dependable and flexible.
  • Work at high level of productivity; adapting behavior to other styles; interact with people who have different values, culture or backgrounds, be of service to difficult people.
  • Strong sales experience in North America with broad understanding of all viable market segments and global regions for WH&R.
  • Team player with strong work ethic.
  • Ability to develop strategy and communicate effectively to the broad WH&R community.
  • Must be able to work with and understand financial information and data, and basic arithmetic functions.
  • Keen knowledge and understanding of travel market segments most importantly Business Transient, Group/MICE and Long Term Stay.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Reporting & Analytics, Marketing, GSO Leadership and others providing support.
  • Understands how to manage in a culturally diverse work environment.

This position requires a high degree of self-motivation, the ability to work unsupervised using own initiative and flexibility to adapt to customer needs within several segments and markets.

Required Qualifications/Experience

  • 3-5 + years in a business development role (travel/hospitality experience preferred, but not required).

Compensation & Benefits

For U.S. based positions only, the expected pay range for this position is $105,000-$120,000 annually.

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts carefully considers a wide range of factors when determining compensation such as work location, background, experience, and performance. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.

In addition to the base pay, this role is eligible to receive an incentive payment pursuant to the Global Sales Incentive Plan with a 25% annual target, subject to the terms of the Plan.
