Job Title: Bookkeeper
Position Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Bookkeeper to join our team at a private elementary and high school serving children with learning disabilities. The ideal candidate will have strong accounting and budgeting skills, as well as experience working with the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) regulations and reporting requirements. This individual will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the school’s mission.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Recordkeeping:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
- Reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, and other financial accounts monthly.
- Track and record tuition payments and other school revenue streams.
Budgeting and Reporting:
- Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget.
- Generate financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, for internal and external stakeholders.
- Support compliance with NJDOE regulations by preparing required financial reports and submissions.
Compliance and Audits:
- Ensure all financial activities adhere to federal, state, and local regulations, including those set by the NJDOE.
- Collaborate with auditors during annual financial audits and implement recommendations as necessary.
Administrative Support:
- Assist with payroll processing and ensure proper recording of employee benefits and deductions.
- Maintain accurate financial records and documentation for audits and NJDOE inspections.
- Support the Business Administrator and CFO with financial tasks as needed.
Vendor and Expense Management:
- Process vendor invoices, issue payments, and ensure timely reimbursements.
- Manage school purchase orders and maintain accurate records of expenditures.

Requirements
Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably in an educational or nonprofit setting.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Familiarity with NJDOE financial regulations and reporting requirements is highly desirable.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
