Quality Engineer

Job Description
Job Title: Quality Engineer
Job Description
The Quality Engineer supports a critical, rapidly growing product line and plays a highly visible role in ensuring product quality across both manufacturing and field installations. This position leads structured problem-solving efforts, drives cross-functional collaboration, and ensures rapid resolution of quality issues in factory and field environments. The role offers high impact, strong visibility with engineering, manufacturing, and leadership, and significant ownership over daily issue triage and resolution in a fast-paced, hands-on setting.
Responsibilities
- Review and triage daily quality issues arising from manufacturing operations and field installations.
- Lead daily cross-functional “war room” meetings to prioritize and address critical quality issues.
- Drive root cause investigations and corrective actions using structured methodologies such as RCCA and 8D.
- Apply problem-solving tools including FMEA, PFMEA, fishbone diagrams, and Ishikawa diagrams to identify and eliminate defects and systemic issues.
- Partner closely with engineering, manufacturing, and field service teams to resolve product and process defects in both factory and field environments.
- Lead and support the development, maintenance, and execution of PFMEAs for key processes and products.
- Represent Quality in engineering changes, product development activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure quality standards and requirements are integrated into design updates, process changes, and new product introductions.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams by facilitating meetings, tracking actions, driving accountability, and escalating issues when necessary.
- Use data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for quality and process improvement across the product lifecycle.
- Support a fast-paced, high-volume production and installation environment by managing multiple issues simultaneously under tight timelines.
- Demonstrate ownership of issues from identification through to sustainable resolution, rather than focusing solely on task execution.
- Communicate clearly, directly, and in a structured manner with stakeholders at all levels to ensure alignment and timely decision-making.
- Travel occasionally to manufacturing and customer sites to support problem-solving, installations, and field performance reviews.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of Quality Engineering experience, or 3+ years with a Master’s degree.
- Proven experience leading, not just supporting, RCCA and 8D problem-solving efforts.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional problem-solving teams in manufacturing and field environments.
- Hands-on ownership and leadership of PFMEA development and execution.
- Experience working in manufacturing environments with high-volume or complex production.
- Experience working in engineering-driven organizations where design and process changes are frequent.
- Strong ability to drive execution and close the loop on quality issues within tight timelines, including 24–48 hour resolution windows when required.
- Proven capability to manage multiple issues and priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced setting.
- Excellent communication skills that are structured, direct, and clear, both verbally and in writing.
- Strong cross-functional coordination skills, including meeting facilitation and action tracking.
- Comfort working in environments that involve both field and manufacturing problem solving.
- Demonstrated ownership mindset, taking responsibility for outcomes rather than only executing assigned tasks.
- Experience applying 8D methodologies to complex quality and reliability issues.
- Proficiency with FMEA and PFMEA for risk assessment and mitigation.
- Experience using fishbone diagrams and Ishikawa diagrams for root cause analysis.
- Background in industries such as semiconductor, automotive, aerospace, or defense.
- SAP or similar ERP system experience to support quality, production, or engineering workflows.
- Six Sigma Green Belt certification or equivalent process improvement experience.
- Six Sigma Black Belt certification is a strong plus.
- Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or similar professional quality certification is highly desirable.
- Experience with new product introduction and integrating quality into early design and launch phases.
- Familiarity with agile frameworks such as Scrum and Kanban for managing projects and issue resolution.
- Demonstrated ability to drive teams and coordinate engineers across multiple functions and locations.
- Ability to travel approximately 5% of the time, including monthly travel to Beverly, MA and occasional customer visits (approximately twice per year).
The role operates in a fast-paced, high-impact environment focused on a major product ramp, with direct involvement in both manufacturing facilities and field installations. You will work closely with cross-functional teams in engineering-driven, production-oriented settings where rapid issue resolution and continuous improvement are critical. The position requires regular collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, field service, and leadership, often through daily “war room” meetings and structured problem-solving sessions. Occasional travel of about 5% includes monthly trips to a manufacturing site in Beverly, MA and occasional customer site visits, providing end-to-end exposure from factory defects to field performance. The culture emphasizes ownership, hands-on engagement, clear communication, and data-driven decision-making, offering strong visibility and opportunities for growth and increased responsibility for high-performing individuals.
