Position Summary

The Intern-Staff Accountant, reporting to the Associate Controller at the Camden Coalition, collaborates closely with the organization's financial team. This role primarily focuses on managing and controlling the General Ledger accounts and business transactions of the organization. It involves applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), conducting analytical work, and conducting comprehensive reviews of financial records to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Requirements

Essential Functions

  • Review and confirm alignment of expenditure coding with budgets and grant funding.
  • Assist with month end procedures according to published deadlines.
  • Assists with bank account reconciliations and analyze activity.
  • Follow internal controls and recommend process improvement where needed to ensure accuracy and to maintain integrity of financial data.
  • Participate in ad-hoc projects as requested or assigned.
  • Assist with customer invoicing for HIE and other contracts.
  • Assist with accounts receivable aging and collections.
  • Assist with the expense reimbursement platform and process.
  • Provide support to the Finance Team.

Non-Essential Functions

  • Attend relevant training as necessary to maintain professional certification and/or knowledge.
  • Adheres to CCHP’s guidelines and ensures the appropriate handling of sensitive information.
  • May work non-traditional hours based on operational needs and to meet the needs of the community.
  • Completes special projects specific to the function of the department or as needed for the department.
  • Other duties as assigned within the scope of position expectations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to learn Abila MIP fund accounting software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills with an orientation towards problem solving.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and handle multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrates the ability to set priorities systematically, meet deadlines consistently, and allocate time efficiently to achieve objectives.

Experience, Education, and Licensure

Experience: 0 years of accounting work experience. Knowledge of accounting principles is a must.

Education : working towards Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.

Work Environment

This position is based in Camden, NJ. The Intern Staff Accountant will be required to be present in the office at least two days per week (currently Tuesdays and Wednesdays; subject to change), and on other days as needed. This is not a full-time remote position.
